The final evolution of the Ferrari Mondial
Includes books, factory tools and luggage, and tonneau covers
The final evolution of the Mondial, the Ferrari Mondial T was a
substantially changed car with numerous visual and mechanical
changes. The "T" brought attention to the car's new layout of its
engine and transmission. Originally the engine was mounted
transversely and was changed to be longitudinal while the
transmission remained transverse, forming a "T". With its engine
increased to 3.4 liters and power now up to 300 horsepower, it was
a formidable car that was received favorably among car critics.
Considered the most substantial upgrade to the Mondial platform
during its entire production, the Mondial T rewards its driver with
an intoxicating exhaust note, excellent driving dynamics and
overall a very refined Ferrari platform.
This 1989 Ferrari Mondial T Cabriolet arrived at Ferrari of Los
Gatos on December 23rd, 1989 and optioned in Rossa Corsa red over a
tan leather interior. Not taking very long to sell, the car was
delivered to its first owner on January 4th, 1990. John Hockin of
Southern California became the first caretaker of the Ferrari
Mondial. A collector of Mondials, Hockin would drive the car
sparingly as he had multiples of the same car, keeping this special
example the most pristine. He added less than 580 miles over the
course of 27 years, having the car serviced at Ferrari of Newport
Beach and when not driving it kept it inside of his storage unit to
preserve the car.
In the summer of 2017 the car was sold to Aurelia Classics who had
the car thoroughly gone through to ensure that it was mechanically
sound. With over $9,400 of mechanical work done including a major
service including new belts, new chain tensioners, suspension
components, gaskets and seals, a new water pump, brake and clutch
fluid flush, along with a host of other maintenance work. The 2nd
owner purchased the Ferrari to be part of his collection, adding
only 3 miles to the car during his 9-month ownership before sending
the perfect showroom-quality example to Canepa.
When the Mondial T Cabriolet arrived, it was inspected from front
to back. Exactly as described, the Mondial looked as though it just
rolled out of the Los Gatos Ferrari showroom. Its factory Rosso
Corsa red paint finish dazzles in the sun. The leather interior has
no wear whatsoever, remaining absolutely pristine and in as-new
condition. This rare time-capsule Ferrari offers a new caretaker
the perfect opportunity to own and experience a 1989 Ferrari
Mondial T Cabriolet as if it was new. With its refined chassis and
engine, upgraded components from a decade of refinement from
Ferrari and only 584 miles since new, this is the perfect Mondial
for any spirited driving or comfortable cruising with the top
down.
