Vehicle Description
Plymouth entered the pony car wars in the late 60's with its own
unique fastback style making this early Barracuda a dramatic and
uncommon alternative to Mustangs and Camaros. With a
numbers-matching 340 V8, correct colors, and the right
documentation, this 1968 Plymouth Barracuda Formula S is a
fantastic choice if you're the kind who likes power and
distinction.
Before we dive into the powerful V8 of this Barracuda, let's
appreciate the first impression this car gives off. The fastback
gives this a great look that car streamlined for performance. Plus,
this Barracuda announces its speedy intentions from the first
moment you see it thanks to the terrific black stripes that are a
high contrast to the factory-correct Sunfire Yellow paint. Bright
chrome bumpers, classic Rallye wheels, and dual exhaust tips
notched into the roll pan add to this terrific attitude. More than
just look cool, this has rarity. The included Galen Govier
documentation shows this Formula S is one of 1,230.
The black sports stripes on the outside get you ready for the full
black interior. The bucket seats, door panels, and carpets are all
dark and factory-correct. Your left hand goes on the factory wheel
with a barracuda on the center cap, and your right one rests on the
chrome shifter. As you look across the dashboard, the sea of black
is artfully broken up by plenty of stainless and wood-like trim.
It's truly '60s, right down to the factory radio still on display.
This is an upper-class classic, so you get everything from a center
console to cold-bowing air conditioning. And the turn signal
indicators are even seen on the hood. Plus, this sporty Formula S
model even has a factory tach.
This numbers-matching 340 cubic-inch V8 under the hood is quite
special. It was introduced in '68 to combine high-performance and
light weight. It has a high degree of originality, right down to
the air topper. But the aluminum radiator and good hoses also
signal the right maintenance. The V8 inhales deeply from a
four-barrel carburetor, and it makes all the right intimidating
sounds out of the dual exhaust. The V8 is mated to a TorqueFlite
727 three-speed transmission for both stout performance and
comfortable automatic shifting. Add that to the heavy duty
suspension from the Formula S package, front disc brakes, and power
steering, and this is the classic performance car that feels better
going down the road than just about any other pony car of its
era.
Powerful, comfortable, and distinct, this Barracuda Formula S is a
great all around classic coupe, so don't let it slip away, call
today!
