Vehicle Description
1933 Plymouth 5 Window Coupe
The Plymouth automobile made its debut in 1923 as a division of
Chrysler that would produce lower price point automobiles that Ford
and Chevrolet dominated at that time. The first Plymouth
automobiles produced were a bit pricier than the Fords or Chevys,
but they offered more technological improvements not available from
the other two manufacturers. In 2001 the Plymouth division was
dissolved.
For consignment, a 5-window version of a Plymouth PD (more luxury)
coupe that has been modified as a street rod. Major engine
improvements have been made to the V8 which has long since replaced
the inline 6-cylinder engine that came with the car from the
showroom.
Exterior
An all steel body that has been uncut and unmodified in any way.
Original suicide doors hang straight, the rumble seat opens and
closes with all even gaps, and the hood has been removed. A
plexiglass roof panel has been fitted and finished, and the
firewall has been filled in. The paint is not fresh; however, it
presents beautifully, and was most likely sprayed with a 2-stage
system. The brilliant red color shows very small imperfections when
inspected closely, however there are absolutely no major dents or
scratches worth noting, as well as no areas of major body filler
being used. Fiberglass fenders and small running boards
(nonfunctional) adorn each side. Chrome and brite work presents
very nice, with little to no flaws. Overall the exterior could be
improved in minute ways, but there really is nothing worth noting.
A matching set of big and little custom alloy wheels are
attached.
Interior
With little left from the original car, beautiful two tone buckets
wrapped in tan cloth, with darker inserts which resemble suede
leather. Door panels, and the rumble seat, are finished the same
way as the buckets, and complimentary tan color carpeting abounds.
A center console has been added, and has a storage compartment, and
houses the gear selector. Fronting the dash is an aftermarket
chromed tilt steering column topped with a dark wood like steering
wheel glistening from the lacquer covering it. The dash front is
chromed to a mirror finish, and houses Autometer vintage looking
gauges. Good condition headliner frames the skylight and wraps
around to the rear of the interior roof, "B" pillars and rear
window.
Drivetrain
A 440ci Chrysler V8 which sports highly polished cross ram long
tube intake manifolds, and are topped with 625CFM Edelbrock
carburetors which have velocity open stack style element air
cleaners. With the engine block painted red, and everything else
chromed, there is a good reason as to why this hot rod has no hood.
It's the "look". Attached is a Chrysler Torqueflite transmission of
unknown vintage.
Undercarriage
This car rides on its original frame (as per consigner) which is
straight, rust free, in overall great condition, and is painted
black. The underside has numerous parts that have been polished and
chromed. A Ford Mustang 2 front suspension and disc brakes makes up
the front. The rear has drum brakes, and features a 4-link setup,
with a 8.75 Inch rear with 4:10 gearing. Dual polished exhausts
snake their way to a chromed tipped side pipe which peeks out in
front of the rear wheels.
This beautiful build with all its chromed and red glory, is a true
old school hot rod. The engine is a conversation piece to say the
least, and all details make this rod very drivable, but it has nice
power which was the builders intent, and maybe maker a little noise
to awaken the neighbors on a Sunday morning drive!
