Automotive History: The first generation of the Dodge Demon was
short lived but nonetheless, an exceptional vehicle. The original
Dodge Demon was made in 1971 and 1972 Demon was a souped up Dodge
Dart. The Demon had a 108-inch wheelbase, which was three inches
lower than the other Dart models. The Demon was also equipped with
dual exhausts, a heavy duty suspension and rallye instrument
cluster. Initially, the demon was going to be called the "Beaver".
However, that was short lived as a result of the Chrysler Marketing
department learned that it was slang for a specific female body
part - awkward. Afterward, the name was changed to Demon but that
was quickly put to an halt. Some religious groups didn't appreciate
the name and considered it problematic. It especially caused some
uproar when, in an act to get customers to come back, they used the
term "demon-stration".
