Vehicle Description
1925 Chevrolet Superior Series K Rumble Seat Roadster The 1925
Chevrolet was purchased new by a buyer in Black Diamond Washington
in December of 1925. The car comes with a clear Washington title
along with a copy of the car's original 1925 Washington title. The
1925 Chevrolet Series K Superior was a much-improved automobile
that helped begin to close the sales gap with Ford. The success of
the Superior contributed to cutting Ford's sales lead in 1925. A
new rear axle design this year eliminated the infamous "Chevrolet
hum" that had plagued Chevys since 1916. The 1925 Chevrolet Series
K is powered by a 171-cubic-inch four-cylinder engine. It developed
26 horsepower, and a single dry plate clutch replaced the obsolete
cone clutch. Chevy engineers also replaced the car's
quarter-elliptic rear springs with modern semi-elliptic units.The
title noted on the vin, along with other features found on the car
confirm that this is a late 1925 model year production car. After
August 1, 1925, the model was equipped with steel disc wheels as
standard equipment and a "walnut-like" steering wheel with the
spark/throttle moved off the steering wheel to the dash (at the
column)late in production. The body, in general, is good. The
fenders have been repaired and are cracked at the bead area. The
left front fender has bubbles that appear to be rust under the
paint. There are scratches on the rear panel behind the rumble seat
where it appears the rumble seat hinges came loose and the lid slid
down the panel. The hinges for the rumble seat have been changed
from original. The radiator is painted nickel gray but originally
was nickel plated. There are no bumpers; this common for cars for
this era as bumpers were at times an accessory option. No spare
tire and rim are with the car but the spare tire carrier hardware
is present. It is equipped with the optional Chevrolet logo
aluminum step-plates on the running boardsThe car has solid disc
wheels and all four original Chevrolet logo hubcaps are present.
The tires will need to be replaced for road driving. The engine runs
smooth. The engine has an oil pump that supplies oil to the rocker
arms, and this pump has some damage on the mounting surfaces
causing it to draw air causing it not build pressure. The lower end
is oiled by a splash system so the crank and rods are getting oil.
The fuel tank will need cleaning for driving; we have run the
engine on a remote tank just to verify that it runs. The car has
mechanical brakes work as does the park brake. The seat covers, door
panels, rubber floor matt and top are in good condition. We do not
have keys for this car, but there is a toggle switch located on the
left side of the dash that turns power on and off for the ignition.
This Chevrolet has been part of a large private collection for many
years and needs a mechanical refresh for driving along with new
tires. I would be a good start for someone who is looking for a car
that is relatively simple and easy to work on.
