Vehicle Description
This one is just too much fun to pass up. It only takes a quick
glance to know this 1947 Austin A40 is not just some classic
British economy car. The bold paint and hood scoop are just a hint
at the beastly V8 power that lies underneath. This is the full
custom build for someone who knows really cool things come in small
packages.
The Austin A40 might have helped put England on wheels, but it's a
rare sight over here today. In fact, many British car fans might be
keen on seeing an A40 at their favorite car show. But don't let
them get too close, or else this wild child might make them spill
their Sleepy Time tea. After all, the yellow on this one is more
vivid than a sunrise on the Thames, and the custom pinstriping is
bolder than anything on the Union Jack. You'll love the extra
attention and investment that was given to the details like the
single-piece steel front end that now incorporated the bumper and
frenched the headlights. Along the sides, the shaved door handles
give this a sleek look. Plus, those iconic and bright Cragar SS
wheels cannot hide even when masked by the rounded fenders. It all
ends with some thoughtful details like the color-matched bumper,
more pinstriping, and even an integrated third brake light.
The best British sport coats are made from tweed, so it seems
fitting to use that for the interior. There are enjoyable features
like bucket seats, power windows, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo. The
details are nice with Austin's flying "A" logo used for the door
pulls. And we love how that is also embossed into the door of the
fully finished trunk (now mostly used to hold the battery box.) But
as nice as this one is finished, you're really most concerned about
the performance pieces - after all, that's why the full VDO gauge
panel takes up the whole dash. Plus, the grippy sports steering
wheel on a tilt column and a Hurst Pro-Matic 2 shifter are the
right performance tools to get the job done.
The interior and exterior already tell you one thing - this custom
is all about the engine. While everyone sees that tall air grabber
poking out of the hood, that's just the tip of the performance
iceberg. You can tilt the whole front section forward to reveal
plenty of shining aluminum that's equal parts flair and function.
This is a 355 cubic-inch V8 that's been balanced and blueprinted
for performance. Plus, it has go-fast goodies like a Holley
four-barrel carburetor, Ron Davis Aluminum radiator w/electric fan,
Mallory distributor, and Pro Car long tube headers that feed
straight out into the rumbling dual exhaust. Making sure all this
power gets to the road is a stout TH400 three-speed automatic
transmission that feeds a Ford nine-inch rear end. Plus, you have a
wide set of classic Pro-Trac tires on the rear. The front
suspension is a beefed-up ladder bar setup with front discs, and
the rear has adjustable coilovers. So this is an all-around
performance build.
Here's proof that good things come in small packages. It's a
one-of-a-kind that won't disappoint with the big power and the
crowds it attracts in public. Call today!!!
