THIS CAR HAS ONLY HAD THREE OWNERS. THE FIRST WAS A LADY FROM NEW YORK THAT BOUGHT IN IN 1931. SHE DROVE IT REGULARLY BUT LATER ON SHE PARKED IT IN HER GARAGE TILL ABOUT 1999. IT WAS THEN BOUGHT BY SOMEONE IN NORTH CAROLINA AND HE WORKED ON IT OFF AND ON FOR ABOUT TWELVE YEARS. I HEARD IT WAS FOR SALE, BOUGHT IT, BROUGHT IT HOME IN BOXES AND BUCKETS, STRIPED IT, AND A LOT OF HOURS LATER IT IS WHAT YOU SEE. MY GRANDDAUGHTER NAMED HER SALLY. SALLY IS A HEAD TURNER AND HAS DONE VERY WELL AT CAR SHOWS. WE GET A LOT OF "THUMBS UP" EVERY WHERE WE GO.
I HAVE ALL THE PAPER WORK ON THE PARTS USED AND PICTURES OF THE BUILD. IF ANY QUESTIONS, FEEL FREE TO ASK.
The Pick of the Day was built to drive to Hot August Nights, the annual custom car celebration in Reno, Nevada, and it looks like it still would turn heads there, or anywhere else for that matter. The car is a customized 1941 Mercury coupe being offered for sale on ClassicCars.com by its private owner […]
A week ago, the Pick of the Day was a striking 1949 Mercury old-school custom done in the “lead-sled” style.
The 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August spotlighted a special class of some of the most emblematic of classic street rods.
The 60th anniversary of the fatal crash of Hollywood icon James Dean was September 30, which passed without all that much hoopla.
The name Mickey Thompson has mythical status. It’s a name that inspired so many to go fast. His name remains on many speed goodies to this day. For many, the name also was shrouded in mystery when Thompson and his wife were gunned down in their San Gabriel, California driveway in 1988. A former business […]

It’s hard to believe this was nearly 50 years ago. The joy of YouTube is definitely in that one never realizes how many broadcast gems exist out there of which we only recently become aware. Videos like these remind me why I love racing – and why my perpetual passion began with races like this. […]
The 1960s were a great time for American cars, in many ways the last great era for classic US-made automobiles, especially in the luxury car segment. A highlight of that segment was the personal luxury car, designed for driving to work as easily as crossing the country in supreme comfort. Among the very best of […]
Just seven years after heavier-than-air flight was initially achieved, Charles Stewart Rolls made the first non-stop flight by airplane across the English Channel from Britain to France and back again. That historic flight took place 110 years ago, on June 2, 1910, a date that Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is commemorating as it marks 116 years […]
June 2, 1970, was a Tuesday. As usual, I arrived at the newspaper office around 5 a.m. to start working my way through the stack of paper filed overnight by the Associated Press sports wire teletypewriters. Ideally, I’d have that process finished, and also have a pretty good start on the design of that day’s […]
