Vehicle Description
First introduced to the public in 1941, the Oldsmobile 98 carries
with it a long and proud history. Over the course of 55 years, the
98 would go through 12 generations of models before it's
discontinuation in 1996. Arguably, none were as popular as the
redesigned post war vehicles that were introduced in 1948. Year
after year, Oldsmobile would set sale records for their luxurious
line of 98s.
In 1950, Oldsmobile made sublte changes to its premier line that
resulted in another record year. 1950 was the first totally slab
sided Oldsmobile and the first sedan with wraparound rear windows.
A 4-door 98 fastback appeared for one year only in 1950 and was
called the Town Sedan, selling only 1,778 units. Standard equipment
included bumper guards, dual horns, parking lamps, dome light,
rubber floor mats, aluminum sill plates, foam rubber seat cushions,
chrome interior trim, lined luggage compartment and counterbalanced
trunk lid. Deluxe 98 equipment included rear seat armrest, Deluxe
electric clock, Deluxe steering wheel and horn button, special door
trim and stainless steel wheel trim rings. Upholstery choices
spanned nylon fabric, striped broadcloth or leather. It was the
first year that Oldsmobile crested over 100,000 sales for the
98.
This 1950 Futuramic 98 convertible is a wonderful example of why
this line of cars was so popular and so far ahead of its time.
Powered by the now famous Rocket 303ci V8, this '50 left the
factory with 135hp and a powerglide transmission. Covered in its
original crest blue and blue leather interior. This car shows
extremely well and is ready to be driven to your local car
show.
Since the frame up restoration, the car has only seen just over
1800 miles on the road. The restoration included a complete
rebuilding of the engine, Hydramatic automatic transmission, rear
differential, brakes and steering.
