Vehicle Description
One of just 11 registry-listed 1971 GS Stage 1 'Zone Demonstrator'
convertibles, this Buick was a rare classic straight from the
factory. Add in a detailed, ground-up restoration that wraps
correct Cortez Gold and Pearl aesthetics around a choice 455/700R4
drivetrain, and you realize this storied drop-top is an excellent
opportunity to score some exclusive Detroit muscle!
Zone Demo GS cars were unique in two ways. For starters, they all
sported Buick's new-for-1971 Cortez Gold paint between White
convertible tops and snazzy Pearl interiors. And secondly, they
were pretty much fully-optioned rigs. Delivered to the Buick Zone
Office in Jacksonville, Florida in August of 1970, this GS is 1 of
roughly 25 Zone Demo convertibles produced for the 1971 model year.
Its current condition comes courtesy of a comprehensive, body-off
restoration that combined head-turning style with fully sorted
drivability. And the result is one super cool classic that, from
its optional Sport Mirrors to its optional bumper-piercing exhaust,
literally embodies the term 'crowd-gathering appeal'!
Drivability was a major focus during this Stage 1's comprehensive
rebirth, and the 455 cubic inch V8 that's bolted between its Gloss
Black fenders is the kind of killer powerhouse that'll absolutely
thrust you back in the seat on an unassuming on-ramp! The usual
assortment of goodies, like factory induction and a spry Quadrajet
carburetor, join upgrades like an MSD distributor, long-tube
headers and MSD Super Conductor plug wires to twist big power into
massive torque. That torque rolls through a trusty 700R4 4-speed,
which jerks a familiar 10-bolt axle. That road-ready drivetrain
rolls on a tagged Rallye Ride Control Suspension, which pairs
factory power steering with better springs, better shocks, a
thicker front sway bar, a standard rear sway bar and boxed rear
control arms. Naturally, the car's power-assisted discs and drums
have been completely rebuilt to factory specifications. The
polished headers dump spent gases in to large-diameter pipes, which
make excellent use of dual-chamber Flowmaster mufflers. And at the
corners, chrome Buick Rallyes twist G60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GTs
around red, white and blue center caps.
Peer through the car's Soft Ray glass and you'll find a correct
Pearl cockpit that's loaded with options. Comfy bench seats, with
optional power operation for the front passengers, complement
stylish, pick-free door panels that front factory power windows and
factory power door locks. In front of those thrones, a straight
dash hangs restored Rallye telemetry above factory air
conditioning, Mallory accessory gauges and a vintage AM/FM radio.
And the driver pushes a clean Buick Rallye Wheel around factory
Cruise Control and a tilting steering column.
Featuring a unique story, and a great restoration that wraps
factory-correct aesthetics around a road-ready powertrain, this
exclusive Buick is sure to find a lot of fans. Don't miss your
opportunity to claim an incredible drop-top GS!
