For Sale: 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am SE in Burlington, Ontario

Vehicle Description

1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary Limited Edition.  PRICE REDUCED TO SELL! US$. Serious inquiries only please.

Pristine survivor, 5,970 actual miles time capsule. Numbers matching W72 Pontiac 400 ci, BW T10 4-spd Hurst shifter. Original paint, stripes, decals. This is a rare ultra-clean, investment grade, first-rate pedigree Trans Am.

Vehicle History:

Originally ordered and meticulously maintained for its first 30 years by a GM Pontiac factory employee in Michigan, it was never water-washed nor experienced rain during its leisurely 2,064 miles and first 30 years! It was purchased from the original owner's widow by a collector dealer in NC. During that 4-year period in a showroom, a mere 23 more miles were added before I was fortunate enough to own it for past 6 years.

This vehicle boasts a mere 5,970 actual miles, was hand polished and rests in its inflatable car capsule and temperature controlled garage at 65-70F.  I have extensive original documentation.

Vehicle Originality:

The original body panels still display completely factory accurate panel gaps, which look surprisingly great given the era, and provide excellent panel and pinstripe alignment. Dressed in an original combination of correct GM code 15 Platinum Poly and GM code 16 Dark Charcoal, topped with a set of correct black and red outlining stripes, and displaying a menacing five color "Super Bird" hood decal, this F2 sits as a highly desirable example of a major milestone in Trans Am history. At the front of the car, a straight and glossy urethane bumper hangs a bright red arrow head and correct black bucket headlights above large dual grilles which create a sculpted, aggressive face. Behind that bumper, a "T/A 6.6" branded hood, which denotes the car's rare and highly desirable W72 V8, leads the eye to like-new Soft Ray tinted glass that's complete with both an electric rear window defogger and correct black reveal moldings. At the center of the car, slick mirror-tint T-tops hang over correct sport mirrors and traditional chrome door handles that are complete with correct silver tape stripes. Below those T-tops, striking "Trans Am" call-outs ride between traditional Pontiac fender vents, small 10th Anniversary decals and correct fibreglass wheel spoilers. At the back of the car, a straight D80 deck lid hangs a bold "Trans Am" call-out above a factory fresh tail light panel, a crack-free bumper and familiar Firebird side splitter exhaust tips.

Lift this 'birds sinister silver hood and you'll find a virtually untouched clean engine bay which houses the final, and some say greatest, Pontiac block ever created: an original Pontiac 400 cubic inch W72 V8 producing 220 HP.  This engine was reserved by GM for the rare production of 1,817 10th Anniversary Limited Editions coupled with the 4-speed Hurst manual transmission.

Correct engine casting partial VIN, exclusive W72 4-speed PWH stamp, correct casting number found exclusively on W72 blocks.

Correct Rochester 4-barrel carburetor, correct HEI distributor and silicon plug wires.

GM Corporate Blue original paint coats the entire block; and original cast iron manifolds lead spent gases into a high performance exhaust system.

Clean original engine bay and hood are covered in an original coat of GM satin finish. Its original decals are bright. Everything from its marked brake booster and Delco air compressor, to its fender plenum air tube and satin finish chrome valve covers, is in excellent, condition.

Under this pampered F2, ia a straight, clean, and rust-free frame still displays its original GM satin black paint and clean original floors with absolutely no defect camouflaging original undercoating.

Behind the motor, a W72, exclusive Borg Warner T10 aluminum 4-speed with correct casting number

Original 10-bolt rear end and optional WS6 "Special Performance Suspension Package". For 1979, Pontiac's famous WS6 package included larger sway bars, better shocks and springs, tighter steering gear box, newly designed code J65 power front and rear disc brakes that, when combined with the cars standard power steering, made for serious handling ability and greatly reduced stopping distances.

Dual exhaust system sends a deep Pontiac rumble through spotless side splitter exhaust tips.

Flawless 15 inch "turbo style" aluminum wheels spin beefy 225/70 Goodyear Polysteel Radials around pristine "red bird" center caps. These brand new replica Goodyear Polysteel Radials were purchased and installed 6 years ago prior to the car being delivered in a covered Mackie Transport trailer, while the original like-new tires were bagged and preserved with only 2,087 original miles for the next fortunate owner and in order to enjoy worry-free cruising while maintaining its originality.

Overall, this Trans Am's is in excellent shape having been babied throughout its 40 years and still emanates its original "new car smell" to this day! Pontiac's 10th Anniversary Edition cockpit reveals one of GM's best design efforts; and the all-original leather trim inside this car looks fantastic, showing hardly any signs of wear at all.

In addition to the original factory and dealer tags, for this time capsule's interior, the sale also includes the car's original GM order form, original dealer invoice, original dealer stock tag, original window sticker, an original fuel economy sticker, all the car's original dealer paperwork, an original title, an original owner's manual, original warranty books, Fisher T-Top Bags, and much more.

This '79 Pontiac isn't some run-of-the-mill dingy survivor, it's a top notch muscle car of its day that's in stunning cosmetic condition and still capable of chewing up the roads all day long! Better yet, it's excellent opportunity for you to own a benchmark pristine investment-grade survivor Trans Am for not a lot of money in a market that's going up in value. If you're looking for a fun car with the ideal blend of first-rate pedigree, show-quality looks, and awesome drivability.
