For Sale: 1969 Chevrolet Camaro in Charlotte, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

FACT: The Camaro is one of the most legendary cars in existence.

That's a tenet virtually every car enthusiast believes in. But, as we all know, every legend has its kings. That's where cars like this superb pro street Rally Sport come into the picture. In fact, it's pretty much the embodiment of a king: timeless style, unmatched power, and universal respect that's been bolstered by conquests throughout the blacktop. Combining 540 cubic inches of buff Merlin big block with a stout Turbo-Hydramatic 4-speed and a thoroughly reimagined suspension, this gruff ground-pounder draws big crowds and big compliments. And if you're one of the many enthusiasts looking for a fun classic that's unrelentingly cool, it's your ticket to car guy nirvana!

THE POWER PLAY

Rising to the top is all about power, and in this coupe, power takes the form of massive Merlin III wizardry that, with the aid of Kingsport, Tennessee's White Performance, turns an incredible 717 dyno-proven horsepower into 706 lb./ft. of tire-spinning torque! At the top of that magic mill, a K&N X-Stream air cleaner funnels breeze into an Aeromotive-controlled Quick Fuel carburetor, which rides a coated Pro Comp intake. At the sides of that plane, custom valve covers balance familiar K&N breathers on lightweight aluminum heads. Under those heads, a tough iron block spins a predictable 4340 crank beneath a fluid hydraulic cam and smooth hydraulic lifters. Those internals play well with an MSD Power Pro coil, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor and color-keyed plug wires. At the front of those wires, a polished March serpentine drive spins a trusty Edelbrock water pump between a polished alternator, a polished AC compressor and polished timing hardware. In front of those ancillaries, a thick Griffin radiator makes excellent use of a polished water neck, a custom expansion tank and two SPAL puller fans. Exhaust duties are handled by coated Hooker Competition headers. And aesthetically, Satin Black paint frames niceties like braided hoses, dressed fender braces, a polished hood latch and polished Eddie Motorsports supports.

THE HOOK UP

Bottom-side, a 2,600-2,800 RPM stall kicks a tough 200R4 4-speed that's finished with a 10-inch converter, an aluminum stator and a billet super servo. That gearbox twists a fresh Ford 9-inch that spins a locking differential around streetable gears. That driveline pushes a triangulated 4-bar rear-clip, which seats modern VariShock coil-overs beneath well-integrated mini tubs. Opposite that clip, tubular control arms leads traditional power steering. At the corners, attractive Aerospace Components calipers squeeze drilled and slotted rotors. Exhaust floats from the aforementioned headers in to custom, large-diameter pipes, which center an X-shaped crossover in front of single-chamber Flowmaster mufflers. And power meets the pavement through black-trimmed alloys, which spin 26x6.00R15 Mickey Thompson Sportsmans in front of 325/50R15 Mickey Thompson ET Street Rs.

THE FAMILIAR APPEAL

That impressive scroll of components rolls in a detailed, ground-up restoration that was completed in late 2017. Slick silver 2-stage seems smooth as silk over solid body panels that are straight and well-aligned. And that alignment serves as an excellent canvas for painted Super Sport stripes. Those stripes begin at an "SS" branded grille, which hangs Detroit Speed Rally Sport headlights above a polished bumper and a tasteful D80 chin spoiler. Above that grille, a Camaro-branded header leads a ZL2 Cowl Induction Hood, which fronts fresh glass that's cleared by Detroit Speed Selecta-Speed wipers. At the sides of that glass, a sculpted profile cages polished door handles and ornate quarter louvers in colorful badging, standard rocker spears and correct chrome mirrors. And at the back of the car, a Satin Black, "SS" branded valance seats a retrofitted master power switch between a D80 deck spoiler, Rally Sport taillights and a second polished bumper.

THE COMMAND CENTER

Between the doors you'll find a stylish Black interior that, in addition to being one of the most popular and versatile themes for timeless Detroit muscle, features choice upgrades where it counts. At the center of the car, multi-point Simpson harnesses join modern leather seats to provide far more support than old school factory buckets. In front of those mitts, a padded dash wraps reliable Auto Meter gauges, complete with a GPS speedometer, in a snazzy faux carbon fiber instrument panel. A trick TCI Outlaw Shifter puts the power down. That heavy-duty handle works well with a reproduction Chevrolet Rally Wheel, which laps a tilting Flaming River column. And items like a sturdy roll bar and Vintage Air climate control are significant upgrades to both comfort and safety.

It doesn't take Oxford's Guide to Gearheads to understand the appeal of this beastly F1. Combining incredible performance with timeless aesthetics and an athletic demeanor, this killer custom puts the "pro" in pro street. And best of all, being a first generation Camaro, it'll always be one of the most in-demand classics on the planet. In the market for some no excuses metal that'll draw a crowd wherever it goes? This Chevy is your kind of car!
