For Sale: 1957 Mercury Monterey in Olathe, Kansas

Vehicle Description

This Mercury is an absolute pleasure to drive especially on the highway. It’s large and heavy and behaves very nicely. I purchased it in 2006 and have rarely even seen another one. I have even gotten to the pay window at McDonalds drive-thu and learned that the car two or three in front of me liked the car so much they paid my bill. It will not disappoint you.

I have put two speedometer/odometer heads in it since I have owned it so I have no way of knowing the actual mileage. What is showing is not correct. It says something like 65-70,000 miles.

I have not changed any of the interior.  It is correct except for the floor mats which are after-market. The fuzzy dice in the photos have long since been taken out. The wheel covers are also after market. The car had 1963 Impala wheel covers on it when I bought it.

This car has both power steering and power brakes. The brakes have new shoes and wheel cylinders and I am having it serviced now I have asked the mechanic to tell me if the master cylinder should be replaced. Update: He said "no".

The radio has been restored and worked well but I think a tube must have gone bad.

About 2,000 miles ago I had the engine overhauled because of a broken block. The replacement block had to be bored "20 Over". Receipts for that will be included. This 312ci engine now purrs like a kitty through dual Smithy mufflers.

The push-button transmission is always a conversation starter and has always worked well. Somewhere along the way a previous owner added a button starter under the dash but I've never had to use it.

I have a new water temp gauge in the car but it has never been connected to the engine. The original is also a gauge but not digital.

I have most of the parts for a front end rebuild but they have never been installed because the car handles so well. I will include those parts and their receipts.

I have tried several times to get trunk mat but was always sent Ford mats which will not fit. That still needs to be added.

A pick-up truck backed into me just behind the left rear wheel which damaged the quarter panel and fender skirt. At that time all of the dark blue (Pacific Blue) was repainted. The records for that have been included. The light blue (Nantucket Blue) has not been repainted. The shop that did the work told me that there was no Bondo used. They used leading instead. This is the only damage history to the car that I am aware of.

I don’t know if the gold on the wing is the original color or not. I like it as it is and have not changed it. I haven't seen another gold wing.

All five tires were installed about 1,000 miles ago. The spare has zero miles on it.

This car has done well in neighborhood car shows but I have never entered it in a concourse competition because I have no interest in that level of competition.
