The Rolls-Royce Phantom was Rolls-Royce's replacement for the
original Silver Ghost. Introduced as the 'New Phantom' in 1925.
Many iterations and generations of the Phantom have been produced
from 1925-1991 before the infamous moniker went on hiatus.
The Phantom VII was launched in 2003 and is credited with
successfully reviving the Rolls-Royce brand and restoring
Rolls-Royce's credibility as a maker of luxury cars. The Phantom
uses a unique chassis platform, body, interior, and retains
traditional Rolls-Royce design cues. The body is mostly aluminum
with final assembly, including all body, paint, wood, and leather
work, completed to each customer's individual specification at the
Rolls-Royce plant in Goodwood, West Sussex.
Novel Features:
- Customers can choose from 44,000 paint colors, and specify any
leather color. - The vehicle's unique instrument panel has no
tachometer. Instead it has a power reserve dial that indicates how
much of the engine's power is not being used and available to the
driver. - The traditional Spirit of Ecstasy ornament has an
automatic electronic retraction mechanism to prevent theft and
protect pedestrians in the event of an accident. It may also be
retracted by the driver at the touch of a button, or when the alarm
is armed. The ornament base contains a sensor that detects
movement, and will retract it if someone tampers with it. - The
"RR" logos on each of the wheel hubs are independent bezels in
order to always remain upright while the wheel is rotating. The
Phantom is powered by a 6.7 Liter V12 producing 454 Horsepower and
531 lb-ft pounds of torque allowing this ultra luxury sedan to
accelerate to 60 MPH in a staggering 5.9 Seconds.
The Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coup was introduced at the 2007
North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, on 7
January 2007. The platform is based on the 2003 Rolls-Royce Phantom
and has styling heavily derived from the 100EX, a concept car
unveiled to celebrate the company's centennial in 2004. It is
currently the most expensive Rolls-Royce model at $533,000. Several
Drophead Coups were featured in the 2012 Summer Olympics closing
ceremony.
The exterior remains faithful to the marine-nautical theme of the
100EX. The 2-door 4-seat convertible features rearward opening
coach doors and teak wood paneling of the convertible's tonneau
cover.
The front fascia takes its cues from the 100EX but with the crucial
difference of the middle bodywork/raised bonnet/grille assemblage
terminating midway down the face rather than continuing downwards
and bisecting the front bumper. The headlamps are also taken
straight out of the 100EX/101EX concept and are similar to the
Phantom's. The deep set rectangular high beams are light-emitting
diode (LED) units while the round "faux-foglamp" driving lights are
projector-style xenon arc lamps. The exterior is available in more
than 44,000 color combinations.
It combines aluminum technology and hand-crafted materials. All in
all, the car continues Rolls-Royce's current design theme,
premiered on the Phantom, combining features of luxuriant 1930s Art
Deco with cold 21st century "techno-modern".
The interior is a modern avant-garde reinterpretation of the
traditional English gentlemen's clubroom with stylistic influences
ranging from minimalism to Art Deco. Perhaps the car's main design
showcase is the yachting-inspired wood veneering that wraps around
the 8/9ths top portion of the cabin from coach door to coach door
and terminating in a crafted convertible tonneau cover,
hand-finished in nautical-grade teak wood paneling sandwiched
between an interior band of contrasting hardwood and the bare
stainless steel motif of the car's upper exterior bodywork.
Similarly with the 100EX and 101EX, the dashboard and the steering
wheel are straight out of the Phantom.
A triangular A-pillars with quarter glass, as well as the
spring-loaded pop-up rollover hoops behind the rear seats, provide
additional strength and protection for the convertible body.
This Black on White Stunner boasts a clean Carfax and just under
34K miles. Custom 24'" Forgiato Wheels provide a beautiful stance
and the original wheels are included in the sale along with the
owners manual and umbrella. In addition an Extended Warranty is in
tact on this beautiful Drophead. Freshly Serviced and ready for
Summer.
