Vehicle Description
It's looking sharp as can be, wears a high impact color and is
still in original configuration both inside and out, as well as
under the hood, where its namesake big block eagerly stands by to
spring into action. This 1971 Ford Torino Cobra Jet is a rare find,
to say the least. It's logged a very low 87,000 miles during its
considerable lifetime and comes complete with a Marti report to
chronicle not only its originality, but its strong array of factory
options.
These outstanding good looks haven't just been confirmed by the
countless admiring nods attracted over the years ... this Torino is
a bona fide award winner, having nabbed a first place trophy in its
class during ACAA competition a few years back. Its medium yellow
gold shade is still looking very strong, ornamented with broad
black stripes that retain their sharp edges and deep black color as
they run the length of its ram air hood - a period appropriate
addition mirroring the available option when this '71 debuted. This
is a great color scheme for a Torino of this era. The sloping
Sportsroof adds even more style to a ride with plenty of it to
begin with, and actually has a functional purpose, equipping the
Torino with improved aerodynamics that paid dividends on the
racetrack back in the day. Just as you'd expect from a car that
distinguished itself in show competition, the body on this '71 is
straight and solid, with great lines and even gaps surrounding its
doors, hood and deck lid. In back the combination of the blackout
tail panel with the pair of dual chrome exhaust tips just below
creates a great look.
Inside the doors, the ginger-colored interior is in great shape.
The front buckets and rear bench seat are unusually clean and
feature knit accents that confer upper tier status. Below, the
clean state of the matching carpeting lining the floor is another
sign that this special edition Ford has been looked after very
carefully - with a pair of Cobra-logoed floor mats added up front.
The vintage appeal on display here is undeniable and when you slide
into the driver's seat and take ahold of the Hurst shifter sitting
within easy reach, you'll be hard pressed not to crack a pleased
smile. The dash area is another strong feature, with a full array
of factory gauges that still function as intended, and a straight,
uncracked pad sitting over the top. The in-dash vents on either
side of it usher cooled air into the cabin via a factory air
conditioning system that's still functioning in top form, and that
original AM radio at the center isn't just there to add
era-appropriate looks to the interior . . . it also turns right
on.
Beneath the cowl is the namesake 429 cubic inch V8, still
performing like a champion. It's running very strong, with its
4-barrel carb resting underneath the Cobra Jet scoop as it pairs
with a 4-speed manual transmission that shifts with slip-free
precision. The 3.70 gears in back offer great off the line
acceleration without driving the revs up too much at highway
speeds. Easy navigation and prompt, fade-resistant stops come with
the smooth power steering and power brakes that feature discs up
front, both of which are in great working order, like everything
else on board. The 14" stock wheels outfitted with Firestone Wide
Oval tires complete the look of this coveted classic, which also
sports a very solid and straight undercarriage below.
It's not just an ultra-clean vintage Ford - this 1971 Ford Torino
Cobra Jet is a genuine award winner that would look great as the
centerpiece of any collector's garage. Call today!
