Vehicle Description
Ford knows all about retro-modern appeal with the Mustang. In 2002,
they released the Thunderbird, which obviously pays homage to the
original 2-seater "Baby Birds" of the '50's. This fact alone makes
the car worthy of your attention, but what's underneath? Well,
there's plenty of good news here. First of all the platform, the
engine, and the transmission all come from the Lincoln LS and
Jaguar S-type sedans. Okay, so there's some upscale roots. The 3.9
liter V8 is smooth and quiet, but when pushed emits a pleasing
snarl and some aggressive acceleration. The 2003 kept the essential
styling, but was infused with an extra 28 horsepower to bring the
total up to a very healthy 280. A horsepower increase is the best
update! The car is engineered for sure-footed handling with a
four-wheel independent suspension, four-wheel anti-lock disc
brakes, and a trunk mounted battery for better balance. Being a
T-bird, you would expect plenty of goodies, and they're all here.
Power everything including a neat tilt-away feature for the
steering column, a nice sound system with CD changer, air
conditioning, and power one-touch-down windows. This one has the
new for '03 Premium Package which gives you heated and cooled
leather seats. Cooled seats is a great feature on a convertible
with black seats! Many drivers are rediscovering these modern Birds
as a stylish way to get around. They offer looks, performance, and
plenty of modern amenities. Ford called it "relaxed sportiness."
Consumer Guide says, "As a near-luxury two-passenger V8
convertible, it's in a class by itself."
