For the 2006 NASCAR season, Kevin Harvick Incorporated (KHI) race
team agreed to terms with Dollar General as the #77 car's primary
sponsor. Burney Lamar began the season behind the wheel, but over
race weekend in Kansas, Harvick announced that Lamar was being
replaced with 2000 Winston Cup Champion, Bobby Labonte. For 2007,
Bobby Labonte, Kevin Harvich, and Kertus Davis were slated to share
driving duties for the #77 car.
The #77 Dollar General car's biggest win came on 28 April 2007 at
the Aaron's 312 NASCAR Busch Series race held at Talladega
Superspeedway. The race provided what was arguably one of the most
exciting finishes of the NASCAR season that year. With two laps to
go, and Bobby Labonte behind the wheel of the #77, he and teammate
Tony Stewart made a move to get into first and second position.
Going into the final lap of the race as the Kevin Harvick
Incorporated teammates approached the final turn before the finish
line, Labonte dramatically passed Stewart on the outside just
before crossing the checkered flag. The race marked the first
one-two finish for Kevin Harvick Incorporated race team.
This 2007 Monte Carlo SS NASCAR is presented in its original #77
Dollar General livery, and is the car that Bobby Labonte took to
victory lane at the Aaron's 312 NASCAR Busch series race at the
famous Talladega Superspeedway. The car is powered by a GM-built
SB2 358-cu. in. V-8 engine featuring a GM aluminum intake and
Holley carburetor; additionally it features custom fabricated long
tube headers, collectors, and pipes. The engine is paired to a Tex
Enterprises four-speed manual transmission with a Hurst shifter.
Power is sent from the transmission through a Tex Enterprises
driveshaft to a G-Force South/Tex Enterprises differential. The car
rides on Goodyear tires mounted on steel wheels. Tilton "bias"
brake master cylinders and four-wheel disc brakes bring the car to
a stop. The interior features a Butler Built seat, Kevin Harvick
Inc. switch panel, Woodward steering column with disconnect and
Schroeder three-spoke steering wheel, and Autometer
instrumentation. A 16:1 power steering box has been fitted to the
car. It's rare that a race car of this caliber retains so much
great race equipment, as many are stripped for parts when
retired.
Kevin Harvick Incorporated's #77 Dollar General driven by Bobby
Labonte, is a unique piece of NASCAR history, and is an excellent
piece to be displayed or vintage raced. Capable of speeds over 200
mph, it's hard to duplicate the adrenaline-pumping performance of
NASCAR.
Proceeds of the sale will benefit the Shalamar Foundation, a
501(c)3 developed to instill confidence and hope in at-risk youth
in rural New York.
Please note that this lot is offered on a Bill of Sale only.
