This “eye-stopper” custom-built street rod was fabricated by Kris Dixon of Wounded Knee Motors over a four-year project. Kris has been the recipient of several Street Rod of the Year awards. The exquisite, custom, exterior paint was painted by Dean “CandyMan” Mattoni of Rocky’s Body Shop.
The attention to detail or project design was never waivered. Starting with a rolling chassis from TCI; the chassis has rack and pinion steering, chrome coil-over suspension, chrome A frames, front disc and rear drum brakes. The chassis also has Ford nine-inch, non-slip rear end with differential housing torsion bars, custom headers and exhaust system. The transmission is a modified GM 700R4. On the body, there is sound deadening and heat insulation on undercarriage and interior firewall. Exhausts are wrapped with heat retardant insulation directly beneath passenger seats.
The original steel body is chopped front and rear. No compound or lead were used to finish the exterior metal. Two craftsmen from Rocky’s Body Shop labored six months using hammer-finish technique to create a perfectly smooth body. The cloth top was replaced with sheet metal insert. The exterior hinges, door and trunk handles were replaced with hidden hinges and keyless entry. In case of battery failure, mechanical entry is provided into trunk, allowing access to mechanical entry into driver’s side, passenger door. Carpeted trunk has three functional compartments. One each for fuse block, battery and car jack/tool storage.
Suicide doors are secured with solenoid driven stainless steel pins to prevent doors from opening due to harsh jar in the road. Solenoids engage when transmission is put in drive. Access to hood release and engine only through interior of car. Hidden electrical kill-switch hidden inside car.
Custom hood modified with side panels cut out and inserted from 32 Ford grill. The standard head light spreader bar removed and head lights mounted on fenders with added structure under front fenders to give stability to fenders. Front spreader bar has directional and running lights.
Design concept of the oval rear third window was incorporated in the French tail lights, side rear view mirrors, brake third light and exhaust tail pipes.
The 32 Ford is powered with a LT-1 Corvette 350HP-P (Performance) engine, equipped with factory fuel injection covers and high performance hydraulic roller cam. Under-hood design includes firewall, fuel injection covers (painted Candy Apple Red) and firewall graphics. The engine compartment is accented with chrome: valve covers, A/C compressor, alternator, spreader bar, and custom braided A/C lines.
The body, fenders, box frame, firewall and fuel injection covers are painted with House of Colors Candy Apple Red over custom Sterling Silver paint. Engine block, differential housing are painted with custom Sterling Silver paint. The original steel gas tank’s top half is Candle Apple red and bottom half is Sterling Silver paint.Running boards are steel with ribbed rubber cover. Front and rear fenders are undercoated with sound deadener and chip resistant undercoating.
The original steel dash was modified with custom Rosewood insert and and Classic analog gauges. The tilt steering wheel and door rest inserts are custom Rosewood. Custom built center console houses controls for AC/ECON/heat, fan, headlights, trunk, wiper and radiator fan. An analog clock and AM/FM stereo radio with CD player and bluetooth are also built into the center console.
Pin striping and graphics are professionally designed and hand painted. Located on the back of Thunderbird power bucket seats, center console trap door, trunk center compartment and exterior of car behind suicide doors are hand painted Ford logo/32 emblems.
State highway patrol road Inspection safety requirement fully covered. There are driver/passenger seat belts, emergency hand brake, high/low beam head lights, park/running lights, third brake light, turn signals and emergency flasher.
This 32 Ford is in a climate controlled garage at 70 degree A/C or heat with epoxy covered flooring. Never been driven in rain or snow.
