For Sale: 2004 London Taxi in Morgantown, Pennsylvania
London Taxis International (LTI) is a UK company based in Coventry
that produces London taxis. The company was founded in 1919 under
the name Carbodies...a company that produced car bodies. Since
1989, the company was known as London Taxis International (LTI). In
October 2012 the company stopped production and filed for
bankruptcy. In February 2013, the company was acquired by a Chinese
company Geely, and in September was reinstated under the name The
London Taxi Company. Lots of 2004 LTI TXII Taxis like Chauncy Fares
have appeared in Cars 2 in London's streets, and one even appeared
in the "Ye Left Turn Inn."
This wonderful example of the authentic London Taxi presents in
very nice condition. Plenty of space to stretch out in this car or
bring a whole lot of stuff with you on a trip. Converted to left
hand drive, all you need to do is put diesel fuel in and you are in
the hack business, in style!
Exterior
British racing green covers this highly maneuverable small yet
extremely spacious automobile. Interestingly, a total lack of brite
work and chrome, has this present as a very utilitarian vehicle.
Save for the front grille, which is in good condition. Two large
rear passenger doors allow passenger access and egress, and this
vehicle features a ramp for wheelchair access. A LONDON light
appears on the roof, to note when the car is available and in
use.
Interior
The cockpit has a slate gray cloth bucket for the driver. This
bucket nestles neatly in a contemporary burl veneer over vinyl
center console that rises to the dash, then fans out towards each
door. Door panels have the same treatment, and electric windows are
seen. An automatic shifter and plenty of lighting and power buttons
pepper the console area, as well as the dash. An AM/FM/CD radio is
inserted into the vertical part of the console. The front passenger
seat has been intentionally omitted to allow room for bags or
cargo. In the rear passenger area, gray leather mixed with cloth is
seen throughout. A large bench seat stretches across the back, and
two folding jump style seats are opposing the rear bench. All
controls for the passengers are functioning perfectly.
Drivetrain
The standard 4-cylinder diesel power plant is squeezed into the
very well thought out engine bay. A 4-speed automatic transmission
is attached and shifts smoothly as you race across town dodging
pedestrians, and other traffic.
Undercarriage
Very clean mostly rust free (some surface rust is present but
certainly unremarkable) the seat pans are clean, and front disc
brakes and rear drum brakes are noted.
A bloody wonderful example of the authentic London Taxi, in tip top
shape from bonnet to boot. Somewhat of a very practical novelty,
diesel power can run and run and run, all over town efficiently.
Spread out and enjoy the ride, and yes, we do accept tips!
