This Camaro is geared towards the performance enthusiast looking for a top-notch build that could be a daily driver with cold A/C, exhaust cut-outsand stiffing chassis components to give an unmatched ride quality. This 1998 Camaro Z28 was bought new by MTI, driven to their shop 10 miles away where the work began. The LS1 was pulled out and stroked to a 383 cubic inch beast. At the time, this was brand new technology as it was only the 2nd year the LS1 was installed in a production GM vehicle. It took them hours upon hours to dial everything in.After all the testing and tuning (with 175 shot of Nitrous) it ran a quarter mile time of 10.34 seconds at 135 MPH. To harness the raw power, the suspension was built with Hotchkis lowering springs, sub-frame connectors, torque arm, and new lower control arms. This allowed MTI to pull .96 Gs on the skid-pad which is better than a C5 Corvette and was tested by Motor Trend Magazine. The car was then sold to the public after MTI was done with the build.
In 2004 a warranty claim was filed, and the engine and transmission were both completely rebuilt at 22,670 miles. When it was rebuilt the LS6 intake and Lunati cam were added as well as the new clutch. This means the engine and transmission only have 15,000 miles on them! Dyno sheets will be provided showing 455 RWHP and thanks to the extra cubic inches, a neck ripping 453 RWTQ. The previous owner babied the car, stored it in a garage and never drove in the rain or inclement weather. It has been taken to our local drag strip in the thin Colorado air for a few quarter mile pulls with the fastest time of 12.8 seconds at 112 MPH. These numbers would easily be in the high 11s at sea level. This is a 12 second street car that could easily double as a daily driver if so desired. The build is mild enough to enjoy on the street and powerful enough to burn rubber through the first 3 gears. The electric exhaust cutout allows you to let the motor scream or you can close them for a nice mild lope. This car passed Colorado emissions with flying colors as it was tuned in 2008 to be emissions friendly but still put down max power.
The red paint is in excellent condition and sports a great shine along with a menacing stance thanks tothe lowering springs and 17in wheels. Complete with tinted windows and a clean cloth interior, this is by far one of the cleanest LS1 Camaros on the market.Overall this is a unique, history rich Camaro that was built with top notch components for the high-performance enthusiast.
