Vehicle Description
You know the story about the "little old lady from Pasadena . . .
or countless other American cities? The one who is selling her
prized car and, being a virtual shut in, had occasion to put almost
no mileage on it? Well, this 1989 Ford Mustang GT Convertible may
not feature such a storied past, but the end result is the same, as
it's logged an unbelievably low number of miles during its
considerable lifetime - fewer than 4700, in fact.
All the signs that this classic Ford droptop has received safe
shelter are evident. The white paint draped over its exterior is in
very good condition, with its original shine and smooth texture
very much intact. Resting comfortably in a nicely-fitted tonneau
cover, the power convertible top still sports a deep black color,
along with a very clear glass rear window, and it raises and lowers
with no issues. The contrasting trim running the circumference of
the car shows no oxidation, the headlights still appear as they did
when new, and clear glass surrounds the cabin. It's a clean, trim
looking ride, with plenty of style but no excess. The subtle
factory ground effects blend in well with the rest of the design
and this third generation's Fox bodied form provides it with a more
prominent hood in keeping with its muscle car heritage.
Inside is a sharp gray interior that shows no obvious effects of UV
exposure - a welcome sight in a convertible of this era. The
high-backed bucket seats blend vinyl and cloth and, having seen so
little use, look pretty much as they did when they were new as they
bracket a center console in the same condition. The dash area, like
everything else inside the doors, offers an unspoiled appearance,
with all of its gauges functioning as intended and an
AM/FM/cassette positioned in the center to provide an element of
nostalgia to your audio experience. Comfort and convenience
features include a tilt column, cruise control, power windows and
door locks, and air conditioning that's blowing cold and strong.
Raise the deck lid and you'll encounter no surprises - the trunk
area is just as clean and neat as you'd expect based on the rest of
the car.
This Mustang is in flat out awesome driving condition. With so few
miles under its belt, it retains an entirely original drivetrain
and, while longevity won't likely be a concern anytime soon, the
5.0 liter V8 under the hood is known for its rock solid durability
- so much so that it's not only powered countless Mustangs over the
years, but has also served as a foundation for legions of
aftermarket automotive projects. It starts right up and runs great,
teaming with a 5-speed manual Tremec transmission that shifts very
smoothly. As many proud owners of classic cars have come to find
out, the years can extract their toll regardless of mileage left
unchecked, but this GT has been very well-maintained to be in such
fine form. Ford gave the fuel injection systems on their 5.0s an
overhaul not long before this '89 first rolled out, and the
adjustability that resulted is a big plus over previous editions.
Power brakes that include discs up front bring dependable,
low-effort stops, while the featured power steering makes this Pony
easy to navigate on its set of 15" stock Mustang wheels that are in
like new condition. The clean undercarriage is yet another
indication this classic has been safely stowed during its lifetime
- it really looks good.
Well-maintained and carefully sheltered, this 1989 Ford Mustang GT
would be a worthy inclusion to any automotive time capsule and it
provides an outstanding driving experience to boot. Call today!
