By Fisher Body General Motors. This factory made ambulance was custom built in Oakland, California on a Sedan Delivery frame by G.M. For Sunkist Forest Division (Fruit Growers Supply Co.) seldom used due to an excellent safety record. It is rust-free California coach, finished in “Campus Cream” w/ correct Black & Beige upholstery w/the orig. 'wood grain' floor. It is a completely documented build by General Motors, sold by the local Chevrolet dealer, Macginnis Chevrolet (Yreka, Calif.), as as “commercial vehicle ambulance”.... hence, extremely rare. Most all ambulances were built by Superior, S&S, or Miller / Meteor. Economy versions built by Barnette, Seibert, Economy Co., or White. This factory custom build included: special made 'frosted cross' rear windows, special custom boxed-out floor w/ attendant seat, aux. fan & lighting, dual heater controls, one-off rear upholstery, 2nd cockpit seat (Sedan Deliveries only came standard with one seat), medical supply cabinet, vintage 2-way radio equipment (incl. Rotary H.E.A.R phone), AM radio delete, emerg. Lights, gurney with lockdown bar, and 'Federal' chrome siren. Also fitted with optional: chrome fender shields, 'bird-type' hood ornament, W.W.W tires, larger hp motor, seatbelts & Deluxe Dog-dish hubcaps. Powered by a 235ci “Thrift King” ambulance motor 6-cyl. 125 H.P. '3- on-the-tree' shifter, and fully synchro-mesh manual transmission. She weighs in at 4,000 lbs. and accommodates 92.5 cubic ft. of cargo, easily enough room for the 'patient' & 'Red Cross' attendant. Chevrolet only built 15,523 Sedan Deliveries out of 1,477,287 Chevrolet units sold in 1953 but, today you could count 'actual' GM built ambulances on one hand.... Due to the 'work nature' of service vehicles and 'the hazards' of the business.Great, rare collectible "professional car", completely documented. Perfect for that Chevrolet Collection! (latest NADA classic car guides value at $85,900!!) priced right...$48,500
