Vehicle Description
This 1954 Studebaker Champion Starlight coupe is really the best of
everything. After all, you get the rare and swoopy Studebaker coupe
design. But now it comes with modern slick paint, a custom A/C
interior, and serious small block V8 power.
Famed designer Raymond Loewy really understood how to take his time
and let the sheetmetal develop sophisticated lines. The long
flowing hood and short rear deck instantly make this sporty. Plus,
the dual grilles, wraparound back window, and mirror-like
form-fitting bumpers make this truly elegant. And while you can
tell there has been a solid investment in keeping this classic
style looking great, you can also see that money was spent updating
this Studebaker for more modern times. The dark gray metallic paint
is a cool modern color, and the trim was expertly deleted so the
clearcoat shine can really dance across the panels when the
sunlight hits this one. It goes great with the subtle upgrades like
the tinted windows and updated headlights. And the American Racing
Salt Flat Specials bring the whole personality together perfectly
as the classic style meets with a larger 18-inch modern size, and
it all hints at the extra power beneath the skin.
Just like the exterior, the interior is unique and attractive. The
gray theme continues on the comfortable two-tone cloth seating. The
door panels and carpeting match to create a very thoughtful
presentation. You get the classic Studebaker dash, but you can also
instantly tell there is a lot more going on with this one. There's
a custom lower section expertly integrated that now house controls
for a MP3/iPod-based integrated stereo system as well as controls
for the cold-blowing R134a air conditioning. Plus, the sports
steering wheel, upgraded AutoMeter Sport-Comp auxiliary gauges, and
ratchet-style Hurst shifter are all there to give you the tingle of
performance.
Under the hood is a far more potent motor that Studebaker ever
offered. It's a 350 cubic-inch ZZ4 performance crate motor. This
strong V8 has also been upgraded with an Edelbrock four-barrel
carburetor, aluminum heads, and tight tuck headers. There's even an
aluminum radiator w/electric fan to help keep this upgraded motor
running cool even if you're in traffic with the A/C pumping. Plus,
the power steering, front disc brakes, and 700R4 four-speed
automatic transmission w/highway-friendly overdrive makes for an
impressive cruiser. But this one was given the performance upgrades
for a reason. There's a fuel cell in the trunk, and the battery is
there, too, for better weight distribution. And you have the modern
grip of BF Goodrich gForce tires. So this custom Studebaker also
knows how to own the asphalt.
Complete with build receipts and title documentation, this is a
