Vehicle Description
This 1966 Chevrolet Impala SS 396 is the real thing - a genuine
upper crust version of the Chevy muscle car that became synonymous
with charismatic presence on the boulevard while offering a great
blend of performance and luxury. It strikes a powerful presence
dressed in its suitably vintage color, and you'll still find the
original powerplant under the hood headlining a drivetrain that's
performing with gusto.
That Marina Blue color covering the exterior was among the choices
on the Chevy color chart when this '66 debuted and it looks the
part. It's at its best after a multi-stage detailing and provides a
perfect match for this instantly recognizable muscle car. This SS
396 is part of the fourth generation of Impalas that, after
receiving a thorough aesthetic overall just a year before, would go
on to smash existing sales records, capturing the rapt attention of
the car buying public with their refined exteriors that included a
more tapered overall look and a sloping rear roofline. The
collection of chrome on display here is in uniformly solid
condition and the exterior alignment is in good order - circle the
car and you'll notice the precise body lines and nice, consistent
gaps surrounding the doors, hood and deck lid, all of which open
and shut very smoothly.
The interior has been totally restored, and really looks great.
Peek inside and you'll see quite a collection of fresh components
in place, including the front buckets that straddle a very clean
center console, the rear bench seat, the door panels and both the
black carpeting below and the snug fitting headliner above. Seat
belts have been installed for an added level of safety during
modern day driving. The generously sized repro steering wheel is a
dead ringer for the original back and just beyond it, the dash area
has seen all the attention it needed to bring it to top form, with
a collection of clear functional gauges inside and a fresh,
uncracked dash pad sitting over the top. You'll have no problem
getting comfortable, even in the middle of summer - the factory air
conditioning blows as cold as you could want. Swinging around to
the back, you'll find that the trunk area is both in great shape
and very spacious. A spare tire sits in its proper inclined
position and a clean plaid liner is in place to cover the floor -
the inner fenders and wheel wells are within easy view and appear
to be very solid and well-prepped against corrosion.
The namesake, original 396 V8 still holds court in the center of
the engine compartment. Nicely dressed in a chrome air cleaner that
sits over its original 4-barrel Quadrajet carb, with a pair of
matching chrome valve covers at its sides, the big block is running
great - it starts right up and pulls with vigor as it pairs with a
stout 3-speed automatic TH400 transmission. The motor is surrounded
by an array of components that have been replaced for increased
reliability, including the fuel pump, alternator, power steering
pump and belts. With new drums in place at all four corners and a
new master cylinder on the firewall, the power brakes on this
classic bring dependable stops. This universally revered classic
cruises the asphalt on a set of very clean stock 15" Chevy wheels
wrapped with Cooper Trendsetter tires.
It's seldom you come across a classic Impala still in its original
configuration and, with its strong curb appeal, abundant power and
totally refurbished interior, this 1966 Chevrolet Impala SS 396 is
a standout. Call today!
