Vehicle Description

1980 ASTON MARTIN V8 VOLANTE "PRINCE OF WALES/ECURIE ECOSSE CONVERSION"
--Grace Green Metallic with Tan leather interior piped Dark Green with Dark Green Wilton Wool carpeting and Dark Green Mohair convertible top, Approx. 15,000 miles since restoration, 5.5 liter 580X Big Bore X-Pack Vantage engine putting out over 450 bhp, 5-speed manual, Restored exceptionally and with the best of everything.

Well-known to Autosport Designs, this V8 Volante was imported and used as the Aston Martin Lagonda North America Factory Press Car. At 17,000 miles it was sold on to Dr. Paul Damus, Roslyn, here in Long Island, New York and coincidently, the town I now live in. In 1996, it was purchased by Autosport Designs and sold by us to well-known audiophile, Mark Levinson of Mark Levinson Audio Systems, Mark had several V8 Aston’s of different variants in his personal collection. It has been known to Autosport Designs, Inc. since and was serviced by us throughout the 1990’s.

In 1998, this V8 Volante was sold to well-known Aston enthusiast and author of the V8 Vantage books Kean Rogers. His books show the history and detail of each chassis number. Kean used this V8 Volante for the 1999 UK to LeMans AMOC Tour prior to having a complete restoration undertaken by friend and well-known UK Aston Specialist Rikki Cann.

The body was stripped to bare metal and converted to European chrome bumper specification prior to paint being renewed. The chassis was subject to complete refurbishment and treated with epoxy rust preventive paint. Extra chassis strengthening added to allow fitment of full Vantage spec engine. The engine bay was stripped back to bare metal and repainted, all ancillary fittings and brackets have been powder coated. A PoW specification front spoiler was fitted as well as European spec. rear valance with fog lights. All door, boot and bonnet trim rubber has been replaced with factory original stock.

All electricals were serviced as needed-where needed and all instruments were renewed. Mechanically this V8 Volante had been rebuilt to as new or better. The brakes, suspension, clutch, gearbox, differential were all treated to rebuilding to as new condition. It was fitted with a suspension handling kit, uprated suspension springs with a larger front swaybar. Later style hubs have been fitted to allow for new style factory 16” Ronal type wheels and 255/50 ZR 16 tires.

The engine was completely stripped down and rebuilt to 5.5 liter Vantage X-Pack high compression specification. Replacement V580X cylinder heads and high lift camshafts have been used with Vantage Weber IDF 48mm carburetors. It is fitted with a big bore airbox, big bore stainless exhaust headers and big bore stainless steel exhaust system. The cooling system was uprated and renewed in all areas at this time.

Finally, the power steering, air conditioning and heating systems were refurbished and tested. The interior and top have been refurbished to as new condition. It is fitted with a PoW style Nardi wood rim steering wheel, factory wood shift knob and PoW style interior.

In March of 2008, Kean Rogers sold this V8 Volante to Autosport Designs and I (Tom Papadopoulos) decided to keep it in my personal care and with my Aston collection. It thus returned to the same town as its first registered owner, Dr. Paul Damus. It was serviced by Autosport Designs while in my care. This V8 have been a pleasure to own for all that have come into contact with it.

In 2011, I sold this V8 to a well-known New York car collector and friend of Autosport Designs who has serviced it with Autosport Designs since. In 2016, it was decided to take it to the next level and convert the flares to PoW specification with flares fabricated by Aston Martin Works Service. We went one step even further and to convert it to not only Prince of Wales Specification, but the even more rare Prince of Wales/Ecurie Ecosse V8 Volantes of which only three have been manufactured by the factory. The PoW Ecurie Ecosse PoW Vantage specification was manufactured with the front grille blanking plate and the V8 Vantage Volantes rear boot spoiler normally found on only the wide body V8 Vantage Volantes.

This rare Vantage engined Prince of Wales/Ecurie Ecosse V8 Volante conversion is one of the finest in the country and certainly one of the best in the world. It has been professionally sorted, upgraded and maintained to the highest standard and drives like new.
