Vehicle Description
Styles and trends come and go, but some things are timeless. 1956
Chevrolet trucks are approaching the classic status of their car
counterparts. And over the years the words "California custom" has
resonated with a magical ring in the hot rod world. Mattel even
used the term in its Hot Wheels TV ads that caused a sensation back
in the day. This '56 Chevy pickup is the product of Hot Rodriguez
of Clovis, California and it could be a trophy winner anywhere in
the country. Candy blue exterior paint is an eye-catcher, and the
design and workmanship demand a close-up look. The all-important
stance was achieved through thorough engineering. A 4-link rear
suspension with adjustable coilovers team up with a Mustang II
front suspension with rack & pinion steering to provide refined
ride and handling. It certainly has the right rolling stock
starting with impressive 20-inch Intro billet wheels. The tires are
Nitto new NT555G2, the second generation of Nitto's popular 555
ultra performance radial. The fat 305 rear tires actually have
larger tread blocks by design than the 255's used in front to
optimize traction on takeoff. In back, a custom oak bed with
stainless strips works well with the paint and the interior to
provide a striking and integrated look. The interior is downright
luxurious. Two tone leather gives it a rich, factory appearance
with bucket seats; plus a center console with an armrest and cup
holders. Grab the oak steering wheel and billet shifter and take
control. Even the pedals are billet. The steering column adjusts
for your comfort along with power windows (with custom billet
switches). Old Air air conditioning keeps you cool, and did we
mention billet controls? Dakota Digital makes analog gauges too,
and they look perfect in this truck. Something that looks this
great should run great too. An excellent solution for street
performance is a Chevy 383 stroker small block. There's no lack of
goodies on this piece. It has aluminum heads and an Edelbrock
4-barrel on an Edelbrock manifold. Hedman ceramic coated headers
look great and enhance performance and fuel economy. They dump into
a 2 inch dual exhaust system complete with an X-pipe in keeping
with the build's high level of engineering. A March serpentine
pulley kit keeps things running while fitting right in with the
show-level engine compartment. Behind the motor is a tried and true
TCI fortified Turbo 350 transmission. This ultra-slick custom '56
Chevy pickup is almost a sensory overload. It's a true California
custom with the looks, feel, sound, and performance that comes with
that hallowed designation.
