As the convertible top on the 550 Barchetta was meant for emergency
use only, it affected the car's overall usability. So, Ferrari
sought to develop a more dynamic solution for the open-top version
of the 575 Marnaello by developing the Revochromico rotating
hardtop to offer both the protection of a hardtop and an open-air
motoring experience. Constructed using a carbon-fibre frame
integrated with electrochromic glass, it was the first roof of its
kind to be fitted to a production car. When closed, the opacity of
the roof could be adjusted via a dial in the cabin, turning the
glass from fully transparent like a conventional sunroof to
allowing in just 1% of available light. With the press of a button,
the roof easily rotates back to rest flush with the boot lid,
leaving the rear window to function as a wind deflector.
Of the 559 Superamericas produced, just 43 left the factory fitted
with a six-speed manual transmission rather than the optional
F1-style transmission. Amongst these, the example presented here is
even more special. Delivered new to the Kuwaiti royal family, it
was fitted not only with the six-speed manual transmission, but
also the desirable HGTC package, adding carbon-ceramic brakes, a
titanium exhaust, as well as suspension and steering upgrades.
Finished in Argento Nrburgring over a Nero interior, further
options include carbon fibre interior with racing seats, a Rosso
tachometer, Scuderia shields on the fenders and stitching in Grigio
Scuro.
Currently with its second owner, the car's most recent major
service was undertaken in August of 2016. Furthermore, a new
hardtop was fitted at Ferrari of Kuwait in February of 2017 along
with new electric motors at 5,068 kilometers. The car has covered
only a handful of kilometers since and remains in excellent
condition throughout.
Considering this car's significant options, manual transmission,
low mileage and royal provenance, it would be near impossible to
find a most interesting Superamerica anywhere in the world. To
drive and enjoy, this Superamerica would be an absolute delight as
it is the last front-engine V-12 two-seater convertible Ferrari. As
a collector's item, it is arguably the best of its breed.
Please note that contrary to the printed catalogue, this car has
traveled 5,087 km (not miles) from new.
Veuillez noter que, contrairement aux indications du catalogue
papier, ce lot a parcouru 5 087 km (et non pas miles) depuis
l'origine.
