To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' Paris event, 6 February
2019.
Estimate:
€190.000 - €260.000
- Just three owners and 10,400 km from new with a fresh cambelt
service
- Unique in Giallo Modena with Nero interior
- One of only 33 World Speed Record editions built
Looking to cement the new 550 Maranello's performance credentials,
Ferrari took a lightly modified 550 to the Transportation Research
Center in East Liberty, Ohio, in October 1998 and broke three
records: 100 miles at an average speed of 190.2 mph, one hour at an
average speed of 184 mph and 100 km at 188.9 mph.
To celebrate their achievement, Ferrari created a limited-edition
run of uniquely equipped 550 Maranellos. Each example was equipped
with the Fiorano handling pack, a leather trimmed roll cage, an
Alcantara steering wheel and carbon bucket seats with four-point
race harnesses.
Dubbed the 550 Maranello WSR, for 'World Speed Record', 33 examples
were built, with the vast majority finished in Grigio Titanio over
a Bordeaux interior. This example stands out from the pack as it is
finished in Giallo Modena over Nero. Delivered new to Italy, the
car's second owner was Ferrari collector Brandon Wang, and was
purchased from him by its current European owner. It is presented
in immaculate condition having covered just 10,383 km from new, and
has just been freshly serviced by Joe Macari in London, this major
service including the all-important cambelts.
Perhaps Evo magazine summarized the 550 Maranello WSR best: 'It has
so much presence and charisma without resorting to shock tactics.
It's the epitome of what a big, potent GT should be.' To view this
