tongue-in-cheek Go Mango name for Chrysler paint code EK2 aptly
fits this 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T convertible. After all, the
Challenger was Detroit's latestand actually final newmuscle-car
platform release, and Dodge offered no less than 11 possible
engines under the hood that year. Just one step below the Hemi was
the new 440/390 HP Six Pack, featuring a trio of Holley carburetors
atop a rugged RB-block with reworked performance internals. What is
being presented here is a V-code Six Pack convertible out of almost
1000 R/T convertibles built that year, only 61 came with the 440
Six Pack and 4-speed driveline, and even fewer exist today. This
top-quality restoration is finished in extra-cost High Impact Go
Mango paint while still retaining its matching-numbers 440 Six Pack
engine. The driveline, of course, features the engine with dual
exhaust and an unsilenced air cleaner, backed by the A33 Track Pak,
which added the 4-speed, a 3.54:1-ratio 9-inch Dana Sure Grip
differential, 7-blade torque-drive fan and a 26-inch performance
radiator. Power brakes were optioned onto the car as well. The car
has the desirable black-leather bucket seat interior, simulated
wood-grain steering wheel, Hurst Pistol Grip shifter, power
convertible top and a Rallye instrument cluster with 150 MPH
speedometer and in-dash tach. From the outside one can see the
sport hood with 440 Six Pack callouts and accompanying hood pins,
R/T badging, tinted glass, a swing-open locking fuel door, a chrome
driver's mirror and chrome exhaust tips. The final touches on this
machine are the Goodyear Polyglas tires riding on 15-inch Rallye
wheels. Dodge made Challenger R/T convertibles for just one year
the car offered here is one of 61 4-speed 440 Six Pack convertibles
ever produced and presents in highly desirable Go Mango High Impact
paint.
