MotoeXotica Classic Cars and check out this 1960 Morris Minor 1000
-ton Pickup Truck. The "Moggy Truck," as they became
affectionately known in the UK, was the work of Sir Alec Issigonis,
who would later design the original Mini Cooper. This left-hand
drive Morris was sold new in Longview, Washington. It was purchased
in 1994 from the original owner by J. Smalley of Silverdale,
Washington, who drove it as a fun weekend toy. He then sold it to
K. McBride of Seattle, Washington, in 2004. Mr. McBride did a total
restoration on this truck to use for promotion in his business,
hence the modern wheels and tires. In 2007, Mr. McBride sold a
package of cars from his extensive collection to the current
vendor. Great history and a very expensive restoration make for a
show ready, excellent driving Morris Minor -ton truck. Under the
bonnet is a .95L inline four-cylinder engine backed by a four-speed
manual transmission. This truck rides on Michelin Harmony radials,
size 175/70R13, at all four corners and the tires wrap around
Minilite alloy wheels. The wheels and tires are in overall very
good order. The cream paint and trim are in overall excellent
condition and the wee truck's bodywork is straight and solid. One
can see the family resemblance to the Morris saloons from the
B-pillars forward, particularly as the front fenders are faired
into the doors. The truck's engine bay is very tidy while the front
bumper looks great. In back, the bed has a newer oaken and steel
floor along with a full-sized spare tire mounted to a matching
alloy wheel. Covering the bed is tan canvas-like material supported
by a handful of metal rods. Inside, the brown bucket seats look
fantastic, as does the corresponding carpeting. The neutral
headliner and three-spoke, body-colored steering wheel are in
similar shape. The metal, body-colored dashboard is in excellent
order, with its ahead-of-its-time center-mounted gauges. The inner
door liners are in very good order. The Morris Minor debuted at the
Earls Court Motor Show in London on September 20th, 1948. Over its
total production run, more than 1.3 million were manufactured
between 1948 and 1971. Issigonis' design concept was to combine the
luxury and convenience of a good motor car at a price affordable by
the working classes, and as a result the Morris Minor was a very
common family car in the '50s and '60s in the UK. The Minor was a
roomy vehicle with superior cornering and handling characteristics
for its time. While it's 0-60 mph time was a sedate 30 seconds, it
sipped petrol at an impressive 40 mpg (Imperial). Closed van and
open flat-bed ("pick-up") versions of the Minor were built from
1953 until the end of production. They were designed for commercial
use with small businesses, although many were also used by larger
corporations. Both the van and the pickup differed from the
monocoque construction of the Saloon and Traveller variants by
having a separate chassis. They also differed in details, such as
telescopic rear dampers, stiffer rear leaf springs and lower-ratio
differentials to cope with heavier loads. The commercial versions
were initially marketed as the Morris Quarter Ton Van and Pick-up,
with a Series III designation applied from 1956. VIN: 0FB4794460
