1992 Mercedes-Benz 300E “Sportline”
When Mercedes came out with the Sportline package they transformed a very nice sedan to an awesome high-speed touring car. The appearance was enhanced with a lower stance, trim badges and front seats similar to the 500 series that provided improved lateral support and long-distance comfort. Performance was also improved with low profile tires, suspension modification and a first gear start transmission that shifts with some real snap.
We have owned this car since 1995 and have put 150,000 pleasurable miles on it in that time. It has always been garage kept, but still had new paint in 2006. The interior is in great shape with the exception of the headliner which has some areas which sag a little. The glass is in excellent condition all around although the windshield, in some lighting conditions, shows twenty-five years of fine pitting. The engine sounds and runs very strongly and will use a bit less than one quart of oil between 5000 mile oil changes. All service in the time I have owned the car was performed by the Mercedes dealer (Von Housen in Sacramento) or a Mercedes/BMW authorized service center here in North Carolina (Professional Auto).
The Michelin tires and the Interstate battery are less than a year old. The A/C refrigerant has been updated to R134. On the downside, however, the cruise control will not engage although a new module was installed.
