Vehicle Description
1962 Ford Thunderbird Coupe
The jet age is in full swing, the country is riding high on Beatle
mania, towering beehive hair doo's, fur boots, and getting to the
moon before the end of the decade. To mirror these times Ford Motor
Company put elements of design into the Thunderbird for 1962.
For consignment, a 3 owner "Bullet Bird" born at the Wixom Assembly
Plant, on March 8, 1962. With a jet age front, and thruster rear
taillight configuration, all in original condition, this hardtop is
perfect for a boulevard cruise that will certainly turn heads.
Exterior
A Thunderbird Landau covered with original Corinthian White,
straight panels, nice chrome, good brite work, and correct badging
awaits its key being turned so it can stretch its legs on some open
highway. An excellent condition Landau padded top covers the entire
roof and has a pair of landau bars with a winged bird logo in the
center, to add a touch of class. Original turbine style hubcaps
cover wide white sidewall tires, and fender skirts, looking cool,
hide some of the rear tires.
Interior
A retro style wrap around dash with medium silver blue metallic
padded vinyl, is mixed with a wide curving horizontal ribbed
aluminum panel, that contains all the instruments and essential
knobs and controls. This curving also continues downward to the
center console, where the climate controls are located. The
aluminum continues back and forms an ashtray, and then turns to the
silver blue metallic vinyl, and created a nice storage area and
armrest. Medium silver blue metallic bucket seats flank the console
and are in very good condition. A flip of the setbacks forward, one
finds a wonderful padded bench stretching from side to side.
Headliner is also good condition.
Drivetrain
Under the hood the original 390ci V8 showing a nice patina, and
"THUNDERBIRD" emblazoned silver valve covers. On top is a 4 Venturi
carburetor (4V) that feeds the engine to produce 300hp. Behind is a
3-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission, which consigner
states has been rebuilt due to it leaking, which has now been
remedied. A 3.00:1 rear axle is installed from the factory.
Undercarriage
Slight surface rust can be seen on some parts underneath, as well
as under the passenger door, however it is minor. Unibody seam
looks very healthy, as do floorpans. Consigner states the shock
absorbers have been changed.
A 3 owner ORIGINAL car shows very nicely, and obviously has been
garaged, and covered (which is included with this car...a cover).
Consigner stated 48,136 original miles, there is obviously a lot of
life left. Rust smoothly, and shifts effortlessly, and if you like
the original patina look, then this will be your nirvana.
