Introduced at the 1981 Frankfurt Show, the 512 BBi was the last
derivation of the 1973 365 Berlinetta Boxers. Similar to its 512 BB
predecessor, it retained the wider rear track and wider and longer
body, now featuring Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection instead of
carburetors. With 344 hp at 6,300 rpm and an overall weight of just
3,304 pounds, the 512 BBi performed in utmost Ferrari supercar
style and was quite the market success. At the close of production
in 1984, it marked the passing of an era in Ferrari history - for
as coachbuilder Sergio Scaglietti sadly remarked, "It was the last
car where we made everything by hand."
The Last "Hand Made" Ferrari
Imported very early in life by Euritalia-Corp, this particularly
stealthy BBi is said to have been purchased by its second owner on
the date of Enzo Ferrari's passing, August 14th, 1988, from
Chequered Flag International in Santa Monica, California. At the
time of purchase, the car had covered just over 26,000 miles.
Shortly after acquiring the Ferrari, its caretaker placed the
Ferrari into long term storage at his Beverly Hills, CA home. The
Boxer would remain a time capsule for the next 27 years.
In early 2015, the decision was made to resurrect 39527, and the
car was sent to F&M Motorsports of Los Angeles, California
until 2017. Over this period, the 512 received an extensive
mechanical overhaul, addressing such items as fluids, filters,
hoses, belts, bearings, gaskets and seals. The entire fuel delivery
system, axle seals and bearings, shifter connections, ignition and
cooling components, the entire braking system - including hoses,
bushings, pads and calipers. Additionally, the suspension was fully
restored - addressing all springs, shocks, bushings and associated
equipment. It was at this time that the original wheels were
properly refinished and wrapped in correct new Michelin TRX-B
tires. All of the work performed is detailed throughout the service
invoices totally over $45,000.00.
The Boxer was once again made road ready and registered in the
State of California. Upon arrival at our facility, we performed
additional light electrical work, along with new clutch hydraulics
to ensure excellent continued drivability. Today, the Ferrari
displays excellent originality, just the right hint of patina that
one wants to see on an original car, having covered just over
27,000 miles from new while spending the majority of its life
stored indoors in Southern California. It's body, glass and trim
appear original, along with tire and pressures decal affixed to the
windscreen, unleaded fuel sticker on the fuel door, identification
plaques and paint code decal under the bonnets. The cabin itself is
exceptionally preserved with original leather and carpeting
throughout. The Ferrari branded Pioneer radio, speakers and
equalizer remain in place, as do the electric Vitaloni mirrors and
emergency window crank in gearbox. Complete with original Owner's
Manual in folio, Blue California plate with Chequered Flag
International frame, spare tire (with cover), spare fuse/bulb case,
jack and emergency tools in bag. Carfax and AutoCheck report a
clean history.
Here is a wonderful opportunity for the discerning enthusiast to
acquire a low mileage, thoughtfully preserved and freshly serviced
Berlinetta Boxer from previous 30-year ownership. We now offer this
exceptional example for worldwide purchase and delivery.
