In 1962 Triumph introduced their new TR4. It contained almost every element that the TR3B had but with a few exceptions including a 2” wider chassis, new rack and pinion steering, and a completely redesigned Michelotti body. This car was an instant hit, as the addition of roll up windows and other creature comforts made the car more usable and more enjoyable. The addition of 86mm pistons, which were adopted in the last years of the TR3 in the B configuration, also increased the power and torque making it a very usable car.

The TR4 had minimal factory options and the car that we are very pleased to offer included the three major ones: leather interior, factory Surrey top, factory overdrive. Overdrive was used in second, third, and fourth gears so unlike a 5 speed you had the ability to split gears as necessary, so when third gear was too low and fourth gear was too high, you could flip the overdrive on in third and be right in the middle. Surrey tops and overdrives are very expensive today to add to the car, with many used in need of restoration Surrey tops bringing $3,000-$5,000.

The car we are offering was subject to a complete frame-off rotisserie restoration, With matching numbers and still retaining its factory Surrey and overdrive. it is finished in red with a black interior and comes complete with leather interior, as well as its Heritage Certificate. The car has been thoroughly sorted and is finished in a base/clear show quality paint job over a beautifully prepared body with nice lines and gaps, a fully detailed engine bay and trunk. The interior is exceptionally nice and fresh, car starts immediately with 75 pounds of oil pressure, runs at a temperature dead in the middle of the gauge, the clutch engages smoothly, and the transmission shifts smoothly as well, O/D engages immediately, all gauges and lights work as they should as well as everything electrical, and the car is very consistently restored meaning the chrome, the paint, and interior are all of the same quality. AS the pictures show, the bottom of the car is exceptionally nice and has not had undercoating sprayed, so you can see what is really there. Even the wheel wells are beautifully finished in the same red. The frame was subject to a complete sandblast and re-spray and all suspension, brakes, steering, etc. were not only rebuilt but detailed to the same quality. This is a very sorted, ready to go, rare Triumph that will be an absolute joy to own and drive.
