Description:
I bought the car in 2014 and raced it twice (lap record at Watkins Glen and 2/1000's away from the lap record at Road America). The seat has been changed to a Recaro Pro Racer Hans SPA and belts to Scroth Enduro, other than that the car is as described below. It is a really well engineered car and great to drive, capable of class lap records at any track (depending on the driver).
History as provided from prior owner:
I purchased this 1995 993 in October 2012 from a friend who previously used the car as a street car/DE car. Upon purchase the car made its way to Dawe's Motorsports where its evolution into a one-off race car began. The car was completed in January 2013 and raced for one season. During the 2013 season I was able to set a PCA GT4 class lap record at every track I raced, including Sebring, Limerock, COTA, Watkins Glen, NJMP and Summit Point. The car also won the 2013 PCA GT4 National Championship. Suffice it to say, the car is fast!
Engine Description: Peter Dawe has been in the racing industry for over 30 years. As a former IMSA racer, he is a renowned engine builder and chassis tuner. For my 993, Peter designed a 3.4 liter race engine (>$28,000). This displacement was chosen based on the dry weight of the vehicle (approx. 2375 pounds), so as to maximize the power/weight ratio for PCA GT4. The engine sports more goodies than can be listed, but includes Kotwica crank, Mahle cylinders, Elite heads, Pauter custom rods, 997 GT3 plenum, Roth Sport throttle bodies and M84 Motec . Based on dyno results from January 2014, the engine makes 332 RWHP and 252 ft. lbs. torque. Note this engine was refreshed in July 2013 and has approx 20 hours since this time .
The Dawe short-geared custom Euro-box transmission (gear chart available upon request) was refreshed. The transmission is coupled to the engine via a JB ultra light-weight flywheel and a Tilton/JB triple-disc clutch. For those who appreciate and enjoy a visceral driving experience, I can assure you this drivetrain, coupled with the barbaric sound emanating from the Dawes custom exhaust, is nothing short of orgasmic.
In terms of suspension components, JRZ triple adjustable motorsport dampers ($9,600) are utilized in conjunction with an RSR front geometry set-up (subframe mounting points moved 3 cm). See specific suspension modifications below. To achieve maximum weight savings and aerodynamic efficiency, this 993 has had every body panel replaced. Bodywork consists of Getty Design wide-body kit (>$12,500), including clamshell hood, fenders, bumpers, roof, deck lid and doors. All body components are fiberglass or S-glass. Custom cooling via naca ducts in the hood provide optimal cooling for the upgraded “big red” calipers and Gyrodisc front rotors/hat. Many steps were taken to maximize weight distribution and a favorable center polar moment of inertia, including the customized location of a fuel cell (with quick connect fill port), removal of rear seat area/replace with aluminum fire wall, relocation of a new Porsche factory electro-hydraulic RSR power steering pump with custom Dawe trunk mount kit.
Other notable components include: FireSense fire suppression, fresh Teamtech 5-point harness (2012); two sets of forged one-piece custom wheels designed by John at CCW purchased 1/13 with 10” x18” fronts, 11.5” x 18” rears with perfect offsets ($6,000); Original light-weight Turbotwist wheels with hoosier wets (1 cycle - new 1/14); Motec Dash data logger ; Coolsuit; Motorolla radio and harness; the list goes on (see details below).
This car is an incident free race car, meaning the chassis is straight and the body panels are true. As with all S-glass panels, some surficial "spider cracks" have developed, and the car is not without some road rash, although the clear bra has worked very well.
If any of you have driven a purpose-built 993 race car, you know that it is an extremely rewarding and engaging car to drive. This vehicle is a podium car in PCA and with some modest "detuning" via the Motec, it could be a class leader in NASA GTS4.
NOTE; THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THE CHASSIS IS STRAIGHT, THE ENGINE HAS 12 HOURS SINCE LAST REFRESH, AND THE TRANSMISSION HAS ZERO HOURS SINCE LAST REBUILD. IT HOLDS MULTIPLE TRACK RECORDS AND IS A 2013 CHAMPIONSHIP WINNING CAR.
