To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' Paris event, 6 February
2019.
Estimate:
310.000 - 340.000
- Desirable GTA 1600 Stradale
- Beautifully restored
- Still wearing its original Italian registration plates
The GTA gave Alfa Romeo massive success in International Touring
car championships in the '60s and early '70s. A lightweight
homologation special, it represented the dreams of many enthusiasts
of its heyday and is highly collectable today thanks to its
stunning performance and gorgeous Bertone-penned bodywork. Thanks
to the wide use of Peraluman 25' alloy body panels of 1.2-mm
thickness, it weighed only 740 kg and coupled with its 115-hp
1,570-cc inline four-cylinder engine, it delivered exhilarating
performance.
Delivered new to Switzerland in December 1966 sporting a red over
black interior, this GTA was sold new to Lecce, Italy, to Mr
Antonio Moriero and registered on 21 April 1972 with the
registration LE 154960. It was later sold to Mr. Federico Ascari of
Castenedolo who kept the car until 1986, when he sold it to Mr
Giuseppe d'Agata of Treviso who kept the car until 2011.
The car ended up in the famous Mario Pietrella collection who
commissioned a concours-level restoration and commissioned
Chiapparini and his mechanics to restore it to pure Stradale'
configuration, including Weber 45 DCOE14 carburettors, but adding
few features such as the famous Autodelta slittone', i.e., the
rear axle sliding guide, and velocity stacks. It was purchased by
the consignor, an Italian Alfa Romeo collector and enthusiast in
2013.
Offered publicly for the first time, this is a unique opportunity
to acquire one of the most significant Alfa Romeos ever made. To
