Vehicle Description
Chevy's second generation Camaros sure were a sharp looking,
capable bunch - angular and low-slung, they added some welcome
technological advances to their already immensely popular
predecessors and attracted a legion of fans of their own.
Unfortunately, as the '70s progressed, they were forced to yield to
increasingly more stringent emission controls that sapped quite a
bit of their responsiveness under throttle. Consider that challenge
surmounted in this 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Restomod - it's carrying
an enhanced monster of a rumbling big block under its hood that
willingly supplies all the power you could want to go along with
its magnetic good looks.
With its matte gray exterior ornamented with a pair of stripes
running the lengths of the hood, roof and deck lid, this is a very
sharp Camaro. It's the result of a precisely fitted full body wrap
that envelopes its aerodynamic second-generation form to present a
very finished looking appearance. Up front, the cowl hood sports a
3" rise and has a very symmetrical, well-sculpted look, while just
below the black front grille and headlight buckets contrast nicely
with the rest of the exterior and tie in perfectly with the wheels
below. The stance is just right - close to the ground for a low
center of gravity and yet with still plenty of ground clearance to
make everyday driving conditions a non-concern. The body alignment
is in good order - Camaros of this vintage feature contours that
run most of their body length and the ones on display here are
impressively consistent as they transition from fender to door to
rear quarter panel.
The interior provides a nice vantage point from which to take full
advantage of this classic Chevy's abilities. The front bucket seats
carry plenty of padding for comfort and only show a little bit of
wear on their black vinyl surfaces as they straddle the center
console and the carpeting lining the floor looks like it was
recently installed. The dash area is in good order - you'll find no
cracks on the pad on top and the gauges inside the instrument
cluster are clear and readable. An AM/FM/CD stereo with both iPod
and Bluetooth connectivity has been seamlessly installed in the
center to provide plenty of audio options.
Seemingly unending power comes from the 468 cubic inch V8 standing
by underneath the cowl hood. It's a freshly built powerplant and
was only fired up for the first time just over a half year ago, so
it's just coming into its own. The entire bottom end of the engine
is forged for added durability under high pressure situations, a
roller cam and rockers were added for maximum operating efficiency
and an Edelbrock intake and Holley 4-barrel take their place just
under the sharp matte black air cleaner. Fire up the engine and tap
on the accelerator and you'll have no doubt there's some serious
power at your disposal and the exhaust note sent through the Hooker
headers leading to a pair of Thrush mufflers will put a smile on
the face of any performance car enthusiast. An aluminum radiator
with dual 10" fans sits up front to keep operating temperatures in
check and an MSD ignition joins the mix to maximize spark. The
4-speed Muncie M22 manual transmission provides just the "hands on"
driving experience a well-equipped street machine like this
deserves, while power brakes and power steering make stopping and
navigating a breeze. This killer looking Chevy rolls on a set of
show stopping 18" Boss 338 wheels wrapped with Pirelli tires.
A timelessly appealing second-generation Camaro appearance combines
with outstanding power to make this 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Restomod
a force to be reckoned with. Call today!
