Vehicle Description
Its predecessor, the CJ series, was ably adapted to the shifting
demands of the marketplace over the years while still retaining
plenty of its military lineage, but while Jeep's Wrangler was still
in its formative stages, priority was put on upping its comfort
level without sacrificing any of the ruggedness the nameplate was
prized for. It's more civilized in a number of respects and
provides a refined driving experience, yet point it toward
unforgiving territory and it will eagerly demonstrate its mountain
goat surefootedness. This 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sport is a fine
representative of that line - it's almost entirely original from
front to back and stands ready to bring you plenty of miles of
future driving fun.
The Maroon metallic color draped over the exterior is the same
shade this '01 left the factory with and whether it's through
attentive care and shelter or perhaps a freshening somewhere along
the line, it's looking very strong and boasts a nice shine. Both
the front bumper - which carries a pair of foglights to illuminate
the road ahead - as well as the one in back sitting under the
mounted spare tire, are in great condition and the body lines on
all four sides corroborate the findings of the AutoCheck report
that accompanies this Wranger, indicating that it's steered clear
of any immovable objects in its path. Its 3'' body lift gives a
ruggedness to its appearance, as well as additional ground
clearance for offroad pursuits. With is clean looking paint and
well finished overall appearance, it's quite a sight in its open
air configuration, but for those occasions calling for more
shelter, a nicely fitting Smittybilt soft top is included and it
features very clean side and rear windows for good visibility.
The interior has been well-looked after and offers a nice driving
environment. The Wrangler was intentionally configured to be more
comfortable than its predecessors and the accommodations inside
reflect it. The front buckets are still holding their original
shape and feature tan cloth covers showing less wear than you'd
likely expect. The dash area has also come through the years in
good fashion: its black and tan surfaces show no major wear and the
gauges inside the instrument cluster are clear and functional.
Comfort and convenience features include cruise control, a tilting
column, air conditioning and an upgraded JVC AM/FM/CD stereo with
iPod compatibility for plentiful audio options. Driver and
passenger airbags add a welcome measure of safety.
A 4.0 liter inline 6 waits under the hood and it continues to
represent itself well, firing up promptly and running smoothly. It
sits in a nicely detailed engine compartment and teams with a
3-speed automatic transmission that's in very road ready condition
- this Jeep is up for action as soon as you get it home. In keeping
with the Wrangler's "comfort-forward" emphasis, the lever to
activate four-wheel drive sits within very easy reach and combines
with that added wheel clearance to provide plenty of capability
while off the asphalt. A new radiator was recently added to up
dependability. Power steering makes this Jeep easy to handle, while
power brakes that feature discs up front bring prompt stops from
its set of 15" polished wheels carrying 33" Dakota A/T with plenty
of good tread left. Despite the temptation this Jeep presents for
inspired offroad driving, its undercarriage is still looking
solid.
Looking nice and sharp and offering the promise of plenty of
fun-filled miles ahead, this 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sport is a must
