Vehicle Description
1956 Ford Fairlane
The Ford Fairlane is an automobile model that was sold between 1955
and 1970 by Ford in North America. The name is derived from Henry
Ford's estate, Fair Lane, near Dearborn, Michigan. Over time, the
name referred to a number of different cars in different classes;
the Fairlane was initially a full-sized car but became a mid-sized
car from the 1962 model year on.
Any time we get stunning 50's era Detroit metal into our Classic
Auto Mall showroom, it tends to attract a lot of attention and
usually doesn't stick around very long. This 1956 Ford Fairlane is
a 1st Place winner in every show its been entered in and has been
painstakingly restored to an over the top version of the Ford line
status. It's the perfect car for anyone who wants a fully working
version with some conveniences from higher end cars added. Also,
you will be getting an exceptionally well-done restoration for half
the price you would put into it from the starting gate.
Exterior
A major restoration starting with the body panels to remove any
rust and dings and dents was performed. It was then sprayed with
Teal and White combo, which uses the polished stainless trim to
denote the fields of color perfectly. Bumpers and badging are
correct and looking in very nice condition. Subtle tail fins bring
up the rear, and rear brake lighting links strikingly similar to
the same year T bird, but it works! Cadillac hubcaps surrounded by
new tires which harken back to the mid 50's are seen all
around.
Interior
Again, a complete redux using the same white bolster over teal
inserts but wrapping 1987 Lincoln split bench power seats. The
original bench graces the back seat but redone to match. Seat belts
and shoulder harnesses are added but color matched. An aftermarket
air conditioner graces the underside of the beautifully restored
teal and chrome dash. Rewired power windows, a tilt steering wheel
and power steering have been installed. Thick pile teal carpeting
floods the floor, and above a new white headliner with two tone sun
visors below.
Drivetrain
The reworked 292ci engine is coupled with a 3-speed manual
transmission with overdrive. Seen on top is a 500 CFM carburetor,
and an automatic choke.
Undercarriage
Clean and mean with virtually no rust seen sums it up. A few items
the consigner noted as new seen from below are a new rear main
seal, clutch, throwout bearing, gas tank, front end ball joints,
front disc brakes, and drum rears, and a completely rebuilt power
steering assembly.
A really nicely done restoration, with some extras for more
creature comfort, you can drive down the road, and it looks like
1956 all over again, but a test of the inside brings you back to
the future! Also thrown in are 2 matching fabric bucket seats, a
Ford wiring harness, and a set of restored fender skirts with all
the fixings to mount them securely in to the car.
