Vehicle Description
1980 Porsche 928
Last year, as the second-generation Porsche Panamera began arriving
in dealer showrooms, its spiritual predecessor, the Porsche 928,
celebrated its 40th anniversary. The 928 is a unique car that was
in many ways significantly ahead of its time. Even today, it
invokes many oohs and aaahs when one rolls through town. And for
many, it served as a poster child for many people's dream car,
particularly for those who grew up in the 1980s.
One can ooooh and ahhhh with this model as well as it has all the
right stuff that was put into one of these front engine
Porsches...automatic transmission and a water cooled V8 that pumps
out 220HP. For the enthusiast that needs a bit roomier car than a
Carrera can offer, as well as the front engine aspect, call
now!
Exterior
From its smooth rolling headlight nose to the iconic rounded rear,
this car is draped in a classic German silver repaint. A chin
spoiler as well as a rear spoiler in menacing black, this sporty
"hatchback" if you will still has great curb appeal and 1980's
lines. An integrated matching silver plastic yet absorbent front
bumper and two black rubber crash bumpers on back, it had to
conform with US standards. Standard Porsche wheel covers are on all
four corners.
Interior
Sporty black leather buckets grab you upon entering the early '80's
space age cockpit. 2+2 rear seats cram in behind the buckets and
leave a long empty storage area under the greenhouse glass of the
hatchback. Power windows, and power locks are installed, as well as
an aftermarket stereo/CD player. A modular stylish instrument
panel/dash is fronted by the air bag steering wheel, in front of
the driver. Headliner appears in very nice condition.
Drivetrain
Topping out at 140MPH this water cooled V8 coupled to an automatic
3-speed transmission, makes driving it a breeze...all be it a stiff
one as this car will do 0-60 in 8.5 seconds.
Undercarriage
Excepting for some rust through on the spare tire compartment
bracket, underside is rust free. The Porsche 928 was one of the
earliest production cars to utilize aluminum throughout its
construction. Along with the weight reduction, aluminum also means
the Porsche 928 is resistant to rust. Additionally, rust-resistant
galvanized steel was employed for the floor pans, roof, and rear
quarter panels.
The 928's futuristic design and status as a luxury vehicle for the
eccentric jet set garnered it a fair share of screen time. It was
the star car in several classic big screen hits of the 1980s,
including "Weird Science," "Risky Business," and "Scarface," which
is also one of the reasons why the Porsche 928 became an icon and
an enthusiast's dream.
