Vehicle Description
This 1958 Buick Century Convertible is one of 2,588 made in 1958
and is powered by a 364ci V8 engine. Highly optioned and finished
in a fitting '50s color of Green Mist Metallic, this Century was
special-ordered with the all-new Flight-Pitch Dynaflow automatic
transmission offered only in the Roadmaster and Limited 1958
models. Another option was the first-year-offered Air-Poise system,
which was the complicated air suspension that totally replaced the
coil spring suspension at all four corners. A silky-smooth ride and
adjustable ride height were the promise of the Air-Poise Buick, but
the overengineered system was troublesome, and many cars were
refitted with coil springs after a few frustrating failures. This
car recently had coil springs installed, and the airbags that were
replaced are included in the sale. With 30,845 original miles, this
Buick convertible is a time capsule, having had regular maintenance
and secure storage in the same garage it came home to in 1958. Most
of the miles were put on it in its first few years, but never any
in the inclement weather months of Northwest Pennsylvania. The ride
and drive of the car is consistent with its appearance.
