Overview Of Entire Vehicle: *Condition #3+ Overall (Excellent Driver)

Here is an absolutely amazing find. It is a 1961 Pontiac Catalina Safari 6-passenger station wagon. This is a very cool and rare car that you almost never see. I would say this is a nice, solid original type car that has received a beautiful cosmetic restoration. It is a, believed to be, 63K original mile car which I would see is accurate. As is has a mostly all original, two tone interior with original carpet and rubber floor mats that is in over all very nice condition. The exterior shows beautifully with a truly amazing paint finish done in its original color of Dawnfire, mostly all new chrome and just an overall great presentation of a quality car. To top it all off, it is powered by its correct 389ci V8 engine with added factory correct tri-power unit. It is PHS documented showing that this car came the way it is shown except for the tri power. This car is a great, fun cruiser to drive to cars shows or take the whole family for a cheeseburger!

Options/Equipment:

  • 389ci V8 Engine w/Tri Power
  • Automatic Transmission
  • Roof Rack
  • AM Radio
  • Power Rear Window
  • Power Steering
  • Power Brakes
  • Painted Steel Wheels w/Dog Dish Hubcaps
  • Etc....

Exterior: *Condition #2-

This car really shows excellent. It has a fantastic paint finish done in its original color Dawnfire that shows wonderfully. It was a truly high dollar paint finish that is smooth as glass and a body straight as an arrow. All the panels have great fit and finish also. Mostly all the chrome and trim was redone and look like new with the exception of a few items that are still nice originals like the roof rack. All of the glass looks to be excellent. It is sitting on its original painted steel wheels with dog dish hubcaps and black wall tires

Interior: *Condition #3

It has a very clean, all original two-tone interior that looks excellent with a little patina here and there The seats, door panels and headliner are all original and excellent. The original rubber floor mats and carpet is very nice with some wear on the drivers rubber mat. The dash and gauge cluster is bright and clean. The dash pad has had a couple previous repairs and the steering wheel was lightly restored. It has what looks to be possibly original paint in the door jams and very nice weather stripping. The spare tire is missing but the jack is still there. Everything seems to work in it except for the courtesy lights and clock. The radio even turns on but does not get a signal due to a missing antenna and I can not find were it went or goes.

Mechanically: *Condition #3+

The car runs and drives excellent. It has its correct 398ci V8 engine with smooth shifting automatic transmission. It has an added factory correct tri power set up that looks factory. Under the hood is clean as a whistle with its original paint still on the jams and firewall. The engine was nicely detailed. It truly runs and drives like a nice, low mileage car should, showing only 63k miles. It is very quiet, tight and a pleasure to drive!

Under Carriage: *Condition #4

The underside is very clean, original looking and nice overall. It has its original rust free floors. There some rust repair on the inner rockers and in the rear spare tire well. It is all in pretty common areas that had some amateur repairs. The frame looks very solid but for some reason both sides of the frame rails were professionally repaired. I had the car checked out by two shops and they said, it was done correctly and is just as strong as it was originally. I'm guessing they were replaced due to rust as the inner rockers had repair. It must have been weak spot on this car, as the rest of the underside looks so dry and solid. Over all the car is structurally solid, looks and runs great so the underside should not matter to the buyer who wants a great cruiser that no one else will have.
