For Sale: 1955 Pontiac Star Chief in Seekonk, Massachusetts

Vehicle Description

Exquisite example of a seldom seen 1955 Pontiac Star Chief Catalina Coupe Custom.  In 1955 the Pontiac Star Chief reigned as Pontiac’s top-of-the-line with a completely new body with eleven inch longer rear overhang.  An all-new 287 V8 was introduced in 1955 as well.  As the VIN number indicates this car is the real deal.  It was built in Washington, DE as a 28-series (124” longer wheelbase) and Hydra Matic transmission.  The cowl tag indicates Style No # 55-2837SD 1955 Star Chief Catalina Coupe Custom and Body No #BW 6746 Washington, DE.  The cowl tag also indicates the Paint #5562 Turquoise Blue and White Mist, Trim #284 Ivory and Dark Blue leather and ACC DK rear seat speaker.  This Star Chief was ordered from Nelson Pontiac located in Radford, VA and retailed on July 21, 1955.  The original Pontiac Owner Service Policy and Pontiac Owners Delco Battery Service Policy are included which documents this information.  This car underwent an extensive nut and bolt concours restoration with no expense spared.  This entire car is in show quality condition with attention to detail throughout.  The exterior was beautifully designed and is truly automotive artwork.  The body is very straight and the paint is stunning.  All of the glass, trim and chrome is excellent in condition.  It sits on 15” matching wheels with 7.10-15 BF Goodrich Silvertown white wall tires.  The interior has been completely restored and complements the exterior perfectly.  The interior is very spacious and elegant.  The trunk compartment is has been restored and home to the spare tire.  The engine compartment is highly detailed with many factory correct items.  The car is powered by the original matching numbers 287 V8 w/ 180HP.  The block casting #518037, heads casting #518024 and VIN stamp on block are correct. The engine starts and runs beautifully.  The engine is coupled to a Hydra Matic transmission that shifts very smoothly.  The undercarriage is nicely detailed throughout.  This car performances wonderfully and is a pleasure to drive.  It sports a Pontiac-Oakland Club International medallion.  It has been awarded AACA National First Prize Winner #W17858 and UAW GM Award of Excellence.  Most Star Chiefs aren’t restored to the level of this one.  This vehicle has been serviced and completely detailed which is documented by an invoice that is included.
