Vehicle Description
1974 Harley Davidson FLH
The Harley-Davidson FLH motorcycle, manufactured by the
Milwaukee-based Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Company, originated in
1949 as the Hydra-Glide touring model, so named for its
hydraulically damped telescopic forks. Since the introduction of
the Hydra-Glide, the Duo-Glide and Electra-Glide models also were
produced and carry the FLH designation. The FLH motorcycles
continue in 2009 as Electra-Glides.
This consignment was bought at an estate sale in 2006 where it had
1,179 original miles on it. Over the next 12 years the consigner
rode it occasionally, where he managed to eek out another 437 miles
trying to preserve its survivor status. Despite its light usage, it
receives regular servicing, and the bike runs great.
Equipped with a 1200 CC V2 Four-stroke engine with 58 HP, this
Overhead Valve Air cooled motor can cruise all day. Affectionately
known as the shovel head, it mates with a 4-speed transmission and
puts varying power to the rear wheel via chain drive.
With very simple construction, this black trimmed bike has 2 hard
saddlebags attached to the rear, and a windshield to the front.
Mostly in excellent condition, there is an area on the large saddle
seat that is coming apart at the seam. Also, the back bolster seems
to have some staining on it and a chrome trim piece across the
windscreen has some corrosion.
Disc brakes are seen in front and back, as well as the FLH forks in
front.
Overall a very nice example, and low miles, plus well
maintained!
