1918 Ford Model T "Roadster Pickup" Located in Saugus, CA 91350
Over 100-years old, Runs well, Clear Title, Registered, Licensed with Tags until June 2019
Listed is a good running 1918 Model T, stock unrestored chassis, easily adaptable to any Ford body of the 1917 to 1922 era, presently using a handbuilt wood pickup body and seat.
The chassis and running gear including engine are 1918. Engine Serial Number is 2,601,377 and Engine Casting Date is 3-21-18, recently rebored to .020 and new aluminum pistons, pins, and rings installed along with new oversize-stem valves. New bands and clutch spring were installed on an otherwise good transmission. This year Ford vehicle did not come with a starter and generator, requiring hand-cranking, ususally starting easily on the 4th pull. A small aux battery has been installed to power the coils for start and to power rear turn signals and LED brake lights. Once started, the ignition is switched over to Magneto and with the new stock muffler, the engine is quiet. The four coils have new capacitors installed and were set up on a HCCT Machine in Dallas, TX.
The frame is all original with no holes drilled, no welding or any modifications in case one finds a good original body to use instead of the present body. The frame, rear-end and front-end were wire brushed and painted with Rustoleum Satin Black. One rusted portion of the lower right hood side panel was cut out and roughly repaired with sheet-metal, the hood, modified cowling and radiator shell were spray-can painted. A wood pickup body with seat was fabricated while a 1923 cowl was narrowed 3" to fit the stock steel firewall. The hood and radiator shell are stock unmodified 1918 items. A windshield was fabricated using lexan.
New front-wheel bearings were used in the stock hubs with adaptors on all four corners to match 19” Model A wire wheels with NOS tires, tubes and rim liners. Adapting the more reliable and obtainable Model A wheels only added 1/4” to the tread width.
NOTE: This was not a restoration project, but an endeavor to make a reliable running Model T for nostalgic purposes. And that it is, it is a fun car to drive around the neighborhood and to the local car show. It is as quiet as any Model T and the engine does not smoke at all. There are some minor engine oil leaks, and as has been said regarding the Model T, "if it doesn't leak oil, there isn't any oil in it." As stated above, most any Model T body can be bolted on to this frame. Clean and clear Title, running well.
