Vehicle Description
The 1958 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 convertible was considered to be the
"King of Chrome" with an appearance of being "painted" with chrome.
Massive front and rear bumper assemblies, with the rear
incorporating Harley Earl's jet exhaust-inspired taillamps
completed the ensemble. A total of 4,456 1958 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88
convertibles were produced, at a staggering cost of $2,931 each.
This example is powered by a 371ci V8 Golden Rocket engine equipped
with the three 2-barrel Rochester carburetor J-2 setup and rated at
312hp. Along with the J-2 package this car is equipped with a newly
rebuilt 4-speed Jet-Away Hydramatic automatic transmission. An
extensive frame-off restoration was completed on this Dynamic 88 in
July 2018, which is finished in its factory-correct shade of Onyx
Black, as indicated on the Body Tag. The paint is complemented by
the extensive chrome and stainless throughout the car. The all-new
leather interior is set in a factory Oldsmobile style with supple
leather bench seats. New glass and rubber, as well as new or
rebuilt engine components and power steering components have been
installed. All brightwork is of good quality and has been replated,
and the stainless has been polished and straightened. The
convertible top is black Stayfast canvas, covered when lowered by a
black Stayfast canvas boot cover. Additional accessories include
fender skirts, a new power hydraulic top and cylinders, a
Transportable radio, Fiesta spinner wheel covers, dual exhaust with
resonators and power brakes. The engine compartment, trunk and
undercarriage have been detailed and are in good condition
throughout.
