For Sale: 1976 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow in Carey, Illinois

Vehicle Description

A gorgeous two owner Silver Shadow Long Wheel Base ("LWB") sedan in simply stunning condition in every respect. This is one of the last of the Silver Shadows. It can be confidently said that the 1974-76 year manufactured Silver Shadows were the best of the series. This one is finished in 2-tone Silver Sand over Walnut (both metallic) and accentuated by hand-painted fine-lines on the body waist-line and the hub-cap trim rings in chocolate. This all coordinates very handsomely with beige Connolly hide leather interior with chocolate seat piping and Wilton wool floor rugs in the reverse theme of chocolate with seat-matching beige piping. The whole ensemble is truly very rich and inviting. The body on the car is very straight and the paint is extremely nice. It has been a Californian car since new (north-west of Sacramento) so completely rust free and very clean underneath. A perfect testament to its well maintained and cosseted life-style, much of the paint on the car is all original. This is very rare to see on Silver Shadows these days as the paint would normally never go the distance, usually chemically breaking down after 20 years (this most notable with metallic paint finishes with Silver being the worst effected). The paint is shiny and presents very well indeed, albeit with a few little nicks and minor blemishes which are barely noticeable but mentioned out of clear disclosure. And, of course, being mostly original paint, we know the car is accident free. The Everflex top is brand new fitted by us because a section of seam stitching had come undone in the position above the driver. The only way this can be remedied is by replacing the top. It was done so in the correct factory method including replacement of the front windshield rubber gasket. The interior of the car is in stunning condition with virtually perfect original Connolly hide leather. The leather has never been replaced or repaired. Excellent testament to its relatively low mileage (any lines you may see in the photos are the "natural" creases in the leather). The leather is soft and supple. Rolls-Royce used Connolly "Vaumol" hides which are vat dyed to the base colour (in this case beige) and then hand rubbed with a dark tone that would capture the natural pores and folds in the grain. The finish provides for a quasi antique look, in some ways like a chesterfield couch. The beauty of un-dyed Vaumol hide is this toning effect is maintained whereas recolouring results in the leather ending up being just the main colour. Please look at the close up photos of the Vaumol to appreciate this expensive and detailed process. All the interior wood is in excellent condition with dash all original and the door cappings never having been redone. Other than some minor seat belt buckle chips in the front doors, it is excellent. The rear door cappings show no signs of imperfections whatsoever. This is very rare for a Silver Shadow and is another clear testament to its well cared for low mileage existence. The headlining is in beautiful condition without any of the "grubbiness" often seen on these wool headliners. The carpet is also excellent without a flaw. The deep grain and glossy finish of the rich grained wood in this example combined with the dramatic beige and chocolate interior makes it all very rich and inviting. All interior feature and functions are fully operational including all electrics - seats, windows, gauges, clock etc. The A/C blows icy cold and heater working well. It has its original push-button radio and Pioneer 8-track fitted. The chrome and bright work is stunning without any pitting and the rubber around the car is good. Mechanically, the car is in superior condition and the presentation under the bonnet and under carriage clearly shows that. Take a close look at the engine bay photos and one could be excused to think this was a 5 year old example. It has not been "done-up" for sale but correctly maintained in original c
