This 1956 Chevrolet Corvette Resto Mod is a sharply executed build
that takes its frame-off restoration to a new standard of
show-stopping looks and performance. Originally equipped with the
265 small-block V-8 engine and base 3-speed manual transmission, it
now moves under the power of the outstanding LS6 all-aluminum
engine Chevrolet produced for the fifth-generation Corvette Z06. A
marvelous powerplant rated at 405 HP and 400 lb-ft of torque.
Plenty of power for the comparatively svelte 1956 Corvette. With an
aluminum radiator and twin electric fans keeping temperatures under
control, the LS6 is backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic
transmission and a heavy-duty narrowed Moser Ford 9-inch rear end.
The latter suspended with a Jim Meyers Racing Products 4-bar setup
using coil-over shocks with adjustable mounting points. JMR also
supplied the front suspension, which features 7/8 inch by .156 inch
wall upper A-arms and 1 inch by .156 inch wall lower A-arms. In
addition to Flaming River power rack-and-pinion steering, this
adjustable front suspension utilizes aluminum adjustable coilover
shocks, also with adjustable upper attachment points to help tailor
the car's stance. Wilwood's power-assisted 4-wheel disc brakes give
outstanding stopping power. Finished in iconic black with silver
coves, the Corvette's exterior features little in the way of
modifications, namely Adjure headlight units with high-intensity
discharge lamps and 18 inch chrome Boyd Coddington wheels fitted
with BF Goodrich Pilot Sport tires that fit perfectly within the
confines of the car's wheel wells. The red interior is also mostly
faithful to the original, but with subtle upgrades that include
custom leather seats from Al Knoch, Auto Meter Phantom white-face
gauges, Hot Rod Air, a custom factory-look sound system, and a 15
inch leather-wrapped steering wheel on an adjustable chromed
steering column. This splendid 1956 Chorvette's overall
presentation is show quality throughout, with superb paint, chrome
and brightwork, and very nice fit and finish.
