Rare opportunity for a collector who feels that the appreciation on the XKE’s has gone beyond his budget. Most collectors have known that for several years that the XKE’s have been one of the major flavors of the day for collecting and an opportunity to get an XKE roadster is even more remote. The information in this ad may be good news for somebody that doesn’t have a big dollar budget.
The 1969 Jaguar XKE roadster in this ad has the original rebuilt 4.2 liter engine. It has been converted to the 3 carburetors instead of two which was forced by the 1969 government regulations. The car also has the Jaguar 4-speed transmission.
You can see by the pictures of the car that while the car was repainted some time ago in the silver it was born with and the paint has faded almost like it is a primer gray color instead of a glossy silver finish.
The original black leather interior is well worn but is usable.
The odometer reads at 52,452 miles and it is believed that it could be original or close to original but there is no documentation for mileage.
The car has been a California car and has been under the same ownership for 45-50 years and always garaged.
The car of course does not have power steering, but does have power brakes and the air conditioning but the air compressor was taken off the car at some point in its life and has been lost so the air conditioning is not working. It is believed that the weather stripping is original and should be replaced.
This car was driven as recently as a few days ago but certainly would need some TLC mechanically which would certainly include an engine tune up, checking the brakes for any needs (which seem to be working) and a replacement of the tires which are quite old. The body condition seems appropriate for a car of this age and the top is believed to be original and is still relatively tight. The convertible top window is very cloudy. When the top is down the car has a Tonneau cover. Car comes with Jack & tool pouch but some tools are missing.
Overall this is a great car for somebody to get into on the ground floor, to spruce up mechanically and drive it as it is as a survivor or to fix it up cosmetically as you go or give it a full restoration. The point is that it has a very low reserve and would allow for non-deep pocketed collectors to have an opportunity to own an XKE roadster. Most collectors would be happy to get into a 2+2 but now you can have the best of ALL XKE’s…the roadster!
