During the late 50's early 60's, America was fascinated with the
space race; what things would look like in future as new
technologies, new designs were on a rapid pace. The American
automotive manufactures pick up on this concept and futuristic
designs and nameplates began showing up on their cars. The cars
were lower, sleeker, interiors with shapely gauges to mimic
aerospace cockpits, long rear fenders with taillights designed to
resemble rockets or jet engines etc. Vehicles like the Olds
Starfire were designed and marketed in this theme. They were big,
they were beautiful, they drove smooth and they gave the American
public a peak towards the future.
The 1962 Oldsmobile Starfire offered here is a very cool and
extremely original example. The car is powered by a its 394 cubic
inch engine, automatic transmission and rear wheel drive. Both the
engine and transmission have recently been rebuilt. The car is
highly optioned from the factory including: Power steering, power
brakes, Factory A/C. power windows, bucket seat, console shift,
tachometer, factory radio, interior trim dcor, power antenna, tuck
and roll seat upholstery, etc. The car is attractively finished in
believed to be original Ebony black over red interior. The car
remains in great original shape the chrome trim and brightwork are
remain very nice and the vehicle has a great overall
presentation.
