In the world of classic Chevy trucks, the second-generation C/K series from 1967 to 1972 are among the most popular and desirable for both original and custom restorations. Using a simple alphanumeric system, trucks that started with a “C” denoted 2-wheel drive, while a “K” was used for 4-wheel drive. The corresponding number after was either a 10, 20 or 30 ‒ corresponding to a rating of half-, 3/4- or one-ton.
This particular truck is a K10 model, indicating it’s an original half-ton 4-wheel-drive model. It sits on a 115-inch wheelbase chassis with the shorter 6-1/2-foot stepside bed. It’s powered by a 327ci V8 engine and backed by a 4-speed manual transmission and 12-bolt rear end. It was the recipient of a frame-off restoration, at which time a mild lift and cowl-induction style hood were added. The truck is equipped with power brakes for improved drivability, and the factory front-locking hubs for the 4-wheel drive system. The stock bench seat was reupholstered, the carpet and dash pad were replaced, and both the doors and lower dash were painted red to match the exterior of the truck. The gauge cluster sports a new bezel along with a factory-style 3-spoke wood-grain steering wheel. On the outside, the truck was finished in a gloss red with black “SS” stripes on the cowl hood, and all the chrome and trim was polished, replated or replaced to cap off everything. The bed was refinished with wood planks and locking strips painted to match. As a well-sorted example of a classic Chevy 4x4, this K10 is ready for the to tackle anything on- or off-road.
